I have theory how World of darkness MMO has gotten its name. I followed long time ago TV-series called Forever Knight. It tells about vampires. Its opening title words are something like this:

He was brought across in 1228.
Prayed on humans for their blood.
Now he wants to be mortal again.
To repay society for his sins.
To emerge from his world of darkness.
from his endless forever night.

I was pretty sure it was inspired by White Wolf.. Specifically Vampire: The Masquerade.

I've been wrong before.

You're right. It is based on V:TM, which is set in the World of Darkness.

As to where the WoD itself takes its name from, I'm not sure.

I don't think there's anything behind the name. It just fits because WoD is pretty dark :P

I've actually played World of Darkness (pen & paper rpg) with some friends of mine. The one I've played is the new WoD which is different from the old WoD. Basically the World of Darkness book has all the basic game mechanics, rules etc. and the assumption is that the players will be playing human characters.
Vampire: the Requiem (N:WoD) has all the vampire stuff in it. Then there a book for werewolves, mages and some others. Only ones I've personally read are WoD and V:TR.

I don't know if there's anything about the name "World of Darkness" in the old World of Darkness but I'm pretty sure there's nothing about it in the new one.

It's fun to play btw. Pretty easy to learn and usually moves at a decent pace.

Guys come on...this is a twilight ripoff...

Cant call it World of Twilight without infuriating both teenage girls AND 40 year old women (not many in between actually...strange demographic..).

So..what comes after twilight? Darkness.

World of Darkness.

Bam!

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

well it was a 90's thing originally

back then being all gothy & emo was cool and edgy

you were supposed to portray the tragic and inescapable loss of your humanity to your baser vampiric/werewolf instincts
it was all about the descent into your own personal darkness

unless you played a brujah with potence 5 .... then you just ripped things in half, because you could.

World of Darkness is from Whitewolf..

They have a pen and paper RPG serriers.. It started as just Vampire: the maqurade

They then expended the serries to include warewolves, hunters and deamon/angles.. also ghost

the WoD books in itself tend to focus more on being a normal human in this world.. you then can become one of these supernatural beings

Its a okay roleplay system and is great for people that like to actually roleplay more then hack and slash.. the combat mechanics can be a bit clunky and very unforgiving.

Will be interesting to see what CCP actually put out for this if they ever do release it

Last time I played we used a mix of the books.. I used the orus book (ghost one)

Was a polygist.. so a dude that could astraly project his soul and interact with the real world.

Actually a very broken class.. so had a webcam in his bedroom that would show him in bed, while his soul went out and commited crimes

Also murdered another palyers Vampire character without them being able to do anything to me.. was lol
