Eve doesn't have any built in viruses, sorry. Eve has nothing to do with your virus problem.

well technically it does since in game browsers can aparrently give virus. Albeit it would be my fault since i clicked on these links and sites in the first place. But it happens in game so i kind of understand why it said eve did it.

But you should biomass your character, just to be on the safe side.

He himself used a kind of diagnostic tool. He told me specifically what it was and was sure it was from eve. now i know because of in game browser activity, most likely

Oh, well as long as he ran some kind of tool, he must be a bonafide expert. I take back everything I said, except the part about biomassing your character.

The only way you could have gotten a virus through eve is from the in game browser. While it may be possible for CCP to put a virus in the client itself it would a) be fairly self destructive of them amd b) be talked about more on the forums because everyone playing eve would have. If he found the infected file in the cache folder for the in game browser then thats your anseer. If he didnt, then it has nothing to do with eve at all.

You can't get a virus from the IGB because it can't download and run any code. Your "friend" is just trying to sound smart.

I'm assuming eve ingame browser is different from my default browser. And I assume that i got the virus from eve because i did click on any link in game i saw. So i can't get a virus from ingame browser is that what ur saying or because i can't get to ingame browser if i'm not ingame namely eve.

No, no - he ran some unnamed tool so he is probably the Dr. House of malware.

But seriously, the IGB has a crippled version of javascript and no support for common attack vectors like flash and java. It's probably not strictly immune to attack, but it's pretty unlikely that any old generic malware (which will generally be reliant on one or more of those vectors) would work against the IGB, and there are softer targets that would affect more people, so I doubt anyone is really digging for IGB 0-day.

Which of the following seems more likely to you?

1) Out of 500000 eve players you are the only one who managed to get a virus from the IGB.
2) You got it from somewhere else.

And especially since the first time was apparently not recent.
If there's been a security issue with the IGB for that long it would be public knowledge by now.

Most likely scenario is that
he got a virus from somewhere
virus infected eve
expert determines eve is the source

From what I read I have a question

Does your buddy charge you? If so do some research on the symptoms of said virus on your own and draw a conclusion from there.

I recommend a quick scan in safe mode press f8 at boot up using this tool http://www.malwarebytes.org/ serves me well and I visit them bad sites daily and on the os browser.

I will not reply to any questions you have my two cents.

The in-game browser isn't completely safe- try to use external programs as often as possible.

Your computer guy is remote accessing your pc and putting the virus there or just doing when he is 'fixing' your computer.

As he is a computer repair dude - you need to inform him that you know what he is doing in a method computery things understand.

We 'punch' data into computers.

I recommend punching the data into his head a few times with your fists.

I have a feeling that he will be able to remove the virus after you do this.

So yeah - your mate is a crook and likely trying to keylog you for c/card details etc.
The lag/lockups are when he is accessing your PC as it takes all your upload bandwidth.

Sounds to me like your PC is overhearing,

does it freeze after 30mins at just desktop (no other programs running)?

or after 30mins of EVE running?

I would format HDD and fresh install of OS, make sure good airflow through your case, and make sure inside the case is clean.
