OK, entries time is closed, well done writers. Some housekeeping to do, then judging, then to announce the contest results. Stay tuned on the various channels. o7!

The 66 stories entered in the contest are here. Enjoy some reading and leave the writers some feedback.
Judging is still in progress.... I'll just say that the entries are good, and I'm personally enjoying reading them. As in, enjoying them as recreational reading, not just as contest entries. Some stories in there that will leave you thinking about them....

How's the judging going? Still on track for the first week in Dec.?

Is it weird that I find myself checking this post every 30mins or so....Read a whole heap of the entrants and now nervous for my piece, it seemed good until I read a few of the others lol. Can't wait though :)

I believe we're on track for finishing judging the first week of December. Personally I'm almost done reading the entries. Some great stuff there-- I can honestly say I'm enjoying reading them for reading's sake.

Once you're done judging, would it be possible for the judges to post critiques or their reviews of pieces? I unfortunately wasn't able to give mine the editing it needed, but I'm very curious about the lore perspective on it all. :D

Additionally, glad to hear about the first week of December! If it's possible to complete judging and distribute prizes before the PLEX for Good campaign ends, I think that'd be pretty nifty. ;)

I'll critique pieces, if writers will mail me asking for feedback. One other judge from last year did the same also. I think that's a better way than publicly posting critiques. Writing, visual arts, music and similar are hard crafts. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, all that.... So I'd prefer to give feedback privately, and give people the option to have the critique posted here in EVE Fiction if they like. That said....

I'd say we need an unified website for the fiction writers. We have people posting stories on personal blogsites. Who knows where those stories are? Who but just some friends notice them and read them? Not optimal at all. If somebody has written a piece, it should be read and commented on. I have a dream, Smile and it's:
-A solid website for EVE writers.
-It has a place to post writings . Where the stories are permanently linked, and accessible forever. They don't disappear to page 29 (a lost hidden corner of the internet) after a few days.
-Works published on personal blogsites can be linked and easily accessed.
-A forum allows writers to speak to each other (completely troll/hater/naysayer-free). Writers can let each other know that they read the story, and offer feedback. Writing friends helping writing friends. With frank honesty, because they write too.
-Significant lore discussions and developments can be linked back here to EVE Fiction, for comment and clarification perhaps by our lore guru devs.

Basically, a hub that people know to go to to publish, read, and comment and share. It could be good, I think. Anybody up for making a site like that? Those are just few ideas, it could be much more than that. I'd like to myself, and might do it someday, but ATM time doesn't allow doing it right.

Edit: I think it's best if I give comments on stories after the judging is done and finalized. Discussing entries with contestants before judging is done could raise questions about impartiality.

I'd actually love some feedback on mine once the judging is done!

Aye! I'll have some of that feedback and critique you're offering please Big smile

Once of course the judging has taken place etc etc.

Will be good to know what the judges liked and did not like, respectively.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

OK, will send feedback when we're done. I'll pass the list of people who want critiques on to the other judges as well.

Judging update: It's still ongoing, we've got about 1/3 of the scores in so far. The aim is to finish this week, if people's spare time will allow. After that we'll probably have to do a tie-breaker round of judging, but that should be pretty quick.

I'm assuming that's to say 1/3 of entries are completely scored, and that the remainder are only missing scores from one or two judges?

That's exactly right.
We're at having about 1/2 scored now.

Big smile Sorry for the delay all, here's the latest update: A couple of the judges have had unexpected things come up (for example, being buried under an avalanche of unanticipated work duties). They expect to finish their part of the judging by the end of the weekend. Thanks for the donation of your precious free time, judges!
