Hey guys, very new to EVE Online. I have a couple question regarding doing 1v1 dueling. I want to get back in the game again since taking time off from it and I want to practice on building my fighting skills. Yes i have an account for almost a year but i havent really played. I still havent even finished the tutorial..lol.

In any event, like i said, i like to get into practicing fighting with 1v1 duels. So my question is:

1. When doing 1v1 duels, do you get back your entire ship and fitting if you insured the ship or am i buying a whole new set again?
(I ask this question because i like to do as many 1v1 duels as possible, but i don't want to go broke doing it.)

2. When doing 1v1 duels is it common not to "Pod"? I believe that's what its called.

I saw this being done on youtube with this one guy and he was fighting every other day and losing his ships. So I was saying to myself is he spending evrytime on ships and fittings..can't be.

Thanks for any help.

Ship goes boom, ship goes boom, no refunds.

So even if insured? I thought if ship is insured you get it back free because you insured it. Why insure a ship if you dont get your ship and fittings back???

If your ship explodes in space, you never get it back. Insuring gives you some ISK back depending on which insurance you chose. Platinum is most expensive but gives you back the most ISK. It is not much though. If you duel and die, you lose everything.

Oh, and people will gladly kill your pod too

My mistake, i meant to say you get your money back. As long as i get most of my money back im fine then.

As for the "Pod" thing hopfully we have an agreement no poding.

Thanks for the help.

I want to get out their and get my ass kicked and hopfully do the same.

Hardly anyone will honor your "honor pod" scheme. You need to learn how to spam warp, and warp out to the nearest celestial once you're in low structure.

Insurance usually should pay you back 50-100% of the base hull price. So if you're going to lose your ship, you should always insure it as you'll get back some of the money that you spent... but it's not a lot. If you're 1v1'ing your fittings will be your most expensive part so insurance only helps a little rather than a lot.

You can duel anyone within CCP's dueling system anywhere in Eve. However, you want people to stick to 1v1's I'd stay in high-sec.

Yeah i saw that in the video where you send out an invite for the duel and it needs to be accepted by the other player. Got it.

Have no clue what "Pod warping" is. need to look that up then.

"Pod warping" isn't really a "thing". When your ship is about to blow up (like 20-50% structure) you pick a planet or something and start spamming that warp button until you have blown up and your pod is in warp. Unless you get some serious lag, someone smartbombs you or you're being bubbled (only in 0.0 space) you will always make it out alive.

Basically you should never ever stay on grid when you die.

Its just not a good idea.

Also what you will learn about actual pvp from dueling is very limited. Eve pvp is much more about what happens before the fight than during.

Some players out of courtesy will not pod in an arranged one v one. As a sign of respect if you will.

That though is not a written rule and as mentioned before do not assume it is the case. Get your pod out ASAP when your ships goes boom regardless if the person said they will or will not attempt to pod you. It is just good practice.

Even if you think your pod is safe (it isn't), evacuating it from grid as soon as possible is a good habit to get into. Getting ypur pod safe should become an instinctive action, especially if you routinely fly with implants. Losing a set of +3s is painful enough, without even considering how much replacing a Slave set and a head full of 5% implants can become. Personally, I have an overview tab set up containing only Celestials which I switch to just before my ship pops. You'll still lose the occasional pod due to pure bad luck, but it should be a rare occurence.

You can see exactly how much isk you'll get back when you insure the ship. Usually it's not even enough to cover the cost of the hull.

If you want to practice pvp the best way would be to join a player corp. Player corps can shoot each other anywhere without any police action. Sparring on the undock with corpmates is a good way to learn and make friends... Well, if you do it with their knowledge and consent you might make friends. If you just run around killing your corpmates then that's called awoxing and they will not be happy.

The missing piece of the puzzle that so many pilots seem to miss. Every military doctrine I have ever read places great importance on the "lay of the land" as well as initial engagement parameters.

Although pre-arranged duels will help pilots get to grip with the basic mechanics of range, transverse, cap management and Overheating it is "Basic Training" at best.

Give it a go though :)

Firstly it is admirable that you are looking to get into pvp straight away and is absolutely a great idea. The difficulty and barrier of entry is there is no escaping the fact that you are going to lose quite a few ships. A couple of months from now you will no doubt have a good source of income, whether it be from mining/missions/piracy/trading which you can then use to buy ships to blow up. There is however some suggestions I could make:

You could look for a pvp oriented corp who are willing to subsidized your ship replacements. Before applying, state what you intend to do and ask if they have a newbro scheme for ship replacements. Always worth a shot.

If you do want to proceed as soon as possible, study popular fits for your T1 frigates and then rather than buying meta 4's/T2 mods buy the absolute cheapest meta available. You should be looking at T1 ships fully fitted at just over 1mil each. You will probably be out gunned in most fights, but you will learn about the basic mechanics which is priceless.

Also, when you do decide to go for it, buy and fit about 20 frigates in one go.. deciding resolutely that you will blow up each and every one of them. This will de-sensitize you for losing ships and also teaches that ships are just a tool.. they are not something to value or get attached too.

Anyway best of luck!

Edited to add..

I will look you up in game, and give you some duels in cheap t1's to try and make it even as possible, I will even give you the ships to do it in. Only caveat is I will try to convince you to consider joining Galmil factional warfare... as willing volunteers with a fighting spirit are always welcome!

Good Sirs;

I don't know if it is really dueling, but I sit in Novice plexes and let myself get locked before stabbing away.

It's kind of 1v1.

Welcome to EVE.

Here are a few simple rules:

Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

People lie, get used to it, and get over it.

When dueling almost nobody will initiate a duel that they don't reasonably expect to win.

Frig duels are a sometimes exception to this.

Expect your opponent to be boosted. Plan accordingly and try to out fit them. (Be creative)

There is no such thing as honor in dueling.

People can and will pod you.

People will lie that they won't pod you, hoping that you'll undock with an expensive pod....so they can pod you.

Start spamming warp when your ship is in structure. After you pop is too late.

If it sounds too good to be true it always is.
