why are smartbombs called "smartbombs?"

since dumb bombs sounds strange

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Smart bombs are called smartbombs because If you light them off in Highsec, only those with above average intelligence survive.

They are called smartbombs because you can activate them and be in the center of the blast and take zero damage, unlike a regular bomb launched from a stealth bomber, the ship can fly into the explosion radius of the bomb and take damage from its own bomb.

Smartbombs damage technology like computers, which are commonly referred to as intelligent or "smart" devices.

Only EMP smartbombs make sense to me. I consider the other damage types to be bombs.

Think of this more as a medical term, when you say spill something on yourself - its smarts meaning it causes pain. Meaning it tends to spread out and start hurting - hence SMART bombs

Initially there were just bombs. However it turned out there were two types of bombs: the regular bombs, that worked by exploding and destroying themselves and the ones that manage not to destroy themselves.
Obviously the bombs not dying are smart(er), while the not-so-smart ones died out over time and the name got lost in the void (not the ammo!).
