So, I walked back into my local comic shop last month - for the first time in maybe 10 or more years - drawn by the release of Neil Gaiman's Sandman: Overture; got to chatting with the owner and remembered how much I used to enjoy discovering new stories there all the time. I decided it was about time to restart my old interest (under the flimsy pretext of taking my son to buy Adventure Time comics Smile) but, with a 10+ year absence, I'm a bit unsure what's out there these days, what's worth reading etc. I thought I'd ask the Eve community for a bit of a pointer to get me started again.

I was a bit of a fan of the DC Vertigo line back then - Sandman, Hellblazer, Preacher etc, as well as some of the shorter runs like Enigma, and Seekers into the Mystery. Not so much into the super hero stuff, though I have been known to dip into the occasional Batman story. And just about anything by Alan Moore ofc.

Any suggestions for a new library would be welcome. Cheers Smile

I absolutely love Ben Templesmith, Fell is one of the best Comics I have ever read (still waiting for it to continue), also "30 days of Night" and "Criminal Macabre" were pretty popular and great works by the same artist.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Always been a fan of Judge Dredd. The Aliens comic books ranges from truly epic to truly awful, I heartily recommend Genocide, Labyrinth, Aliens - Book One and Aliens - Book Two. Aliens vs. Predator is just awesome.

Poison Elves - pure epic dark comedy fantasy

RASL - by the creator of BONE Dan Smith - this comic will be enjoyed by OOPErs as it revolves around Teslas experiments with energy and transdimensional travel.

Saga - space opera

Cerberus - the earlier books by far

BONE

What Alpheias said above +10

I always like The Demon series but it never really had popular appeal. Maybe it had to do with the devil and hell Ugh

Any Lobo book is entertaining.

Early early Wolverine story lines.

There are only two issues of this comic and out of the two and I think you can find them fairly cheap on Amazon, or if you live close to a comic book store.

As mentioned

Bone - Looks like a childrens series but it's absolutly delightful
Besides that gonna list some stuff that most might not know about.

Elfquest - Original series is a nice read with a pretty epic story arch.
We3 (one off book)
Age Of Bronze (Based of Homer's Oddysey ongoing series)
Northmen (Dramatized from viking era, best viking series ever tbh and pretty accurate series is finished each comic is a one off in it's own sense)

Larry Gonick (author). His world history series is absolutly astounding read, albeit slightly outdated in some facts considering it's age and the advance of modern archaeology etc, still a very very accurate and thouroughly researched read.

I will say that DC ****** up The Demon back in the 90's by not giving it a vertigo series Evil Of every title DC had prior to the Vertigo line the content of The Demon was perfect for that line Ugh

Cheers, all - this should give me a good few ideas to start with. I used to enjoy Dredd too, and still hoping Moore and Gibson might one day get together for a Halo Jones sequel. I'd have to hide 2000AD's from the boy though, he's still a little young for that but old enough to go for it if he saw it :)

I know this, of course, though I appreciate the effort you took to point it out. Since Batman falls into the broad category of 'costumed crime fighters', along with many super heroes, I went with the simpler phrase to be more clear about the things I don't really enjoy Blink
