I'd start myself a company called Exxon mobile and over charge for the fuel.

I like it, adds more chances for war (fuel resources)
and just imagine a fleet running out of fuel in a dead end system.
I think it can fun if implemented right.

What would this accomplish other than being a huge annoyance to everybody and a disincentive to using your ship at all?

I like the idea, longer distance you want to roam, you have to bring smaller ships. Screw alpha nado fleets.

This seems like a foolish assumption. The battleship from WWII could easily travel further than a frigate or destroyer escort.

Only if a ship could refuel easily in space somehow (above a gas giant or sun). Thus encouraging the golden rule of "content creation" were people can find other people refuelling and shoot them in the face.

+ you aleady DO have to refuel ships. They're called "jumpers". Anything with a jump drive has to carry fuel, or it can't jump.

Why not?

As long as there will be a way to slowly regenerate fuel if needed - with all modules turned down (just like ships scoop hydrogen in the *other* game).

I want to have an in-flight refuelling ship, selling my services (and space gas) to stranded pilots

Yes in the *other* game I will have a Starfarer which scoops hydrogen from gas giants and is a giant mobile gas station

The need for Fuel is a outdated mechanic of the early 20's

Surely there is something in the lore of the game as to why the ship engines are the way they are??

To answer the OP, no one would really like it. Especially the elite 'Counter Strike in Space' crowd.

But the smart and dedicated would adapt pretty quick. Likely with a Blockade Runner full of fuel or some such. Sadly most who play this game just aren't really that smart and would simply end up clogging the forum with rants rather than learning to think.

when i first started eve, i actually thought we did have to refuel. i was always afraid to go too far because i didn't want to run out of fuel.

If they do the ships need to be run on tears and spam. We then just need to go in to Jita local and activate the 'Textomatic Fuelinator' module to refuel.

If your really eager to fuel a ship, just buy a carrier.

Or Course it makes sense to do this..... unless you added a line in the description of all EVE ships that they run on troll posts and sun light.
