[Suggestion]: Industrial portal generation for Rorquals!

Currently rorquals are rarely used for anything other than ore compression or as a cheap jump freighter.

They do have clone bays which indicate that their role is supposed to be about remote mining operations. however, that is very impractical and almost never used. even if the rorq jumps somewhere and the miners jump clone (does that even work?), they'll have no realistic way of returning!

I suggest giving them a specialized jump portal generator (similar to titans and black ops) that only allows ore and industrial ships to go through, and maybe scanning ships!

This will allow the rorq to bridge a mining fleet to the remote destinations of null to do an op, then jump in and assist, then make a portal to return home! therefore truly serving it's intended purpose.

Indeed. Nobody expects a blob of ventures when a cyno goes up. Its like the Spanish inquisition.

As I understand, Ventures are surprisingly proficient PvP ships considering they have only two drones, two turret slots and no weapon bonuses of any kind.

Procurers and Skiffs can be made into ridiculously-tanky drone platforms.

I'm not really sure what alternate purpose Retrievers, Covetors and their T2 variants can serve though.

Either way, +1 for this idea.

This seems reasonable, +1

Maybe not the Rorqual, but a titan class ORE ship that is in line with the Titans in general.

Trit prices have already taken enough of a hit at the end of this year that you...

A ship bigger the the rorqual... And titan at that which are in the range of 60B

there is simply no need whatsoever for a mining titan, wtf!

what role would it fit? what could it achieve that the rorqual (if my suggestion or something like that is implemented) cannot do?

Nothing!

and unlike pvp fleets, we have not yet yeard of 1000 man hulk fleets that would support from something like an ore titan.

i was gonna paste the ore titan idea in the one line bad ideas thread, but i am afraid that ccp will actually do something like that!
I like CCP rise, but the company has a knack for implementing terrible ideas.

LOL, well to back it up - remember that when titans were released ccp thought they were big trolls and wouldn't be used... hopefully that doesn't happen again... Power Projection stands to be one of the most powerful weapons in the game!

i know ive made several posts on rorquals and this idea (along with others). no responses from the devs.

there have been several cool ideas to help mining fleets project into the field better. with this idea, a couple alts could find the ark fields, scout and light a cyno. the rorqual could send a group into the field and then follow. this is another form of pvp...denial of resources. but it would benefit miners and these guys are anti miners. ;-)

There is bridging for pvp and bridging for recons, so why not have bridging for industrials?

They are actually the ones in most need of bridging, since they cannot "safely" travel through null sec by conventional means. a pvp fleet can afford to travel through vast areas of nullsec gaining strength from numbers and being equipped to defend themselves. yet a titan can still bridge them.

Recons (except blops) can use covops cloaks and avoid any conflict they don't want to engage to, and still they get blops bridge.

Miners should get their own bridge too, they need it more than the other two groups.

Limit this to Ore & Industrial ships, and I think this is a good idea. It gives some utility back to the Rorqual, which currently is sort of lacking.

Note: I firmly believe OrePortal should NOT be capable of jumping Freighters, and I'm very hesitant to allow them to jump Orca's too. If you need that level of haulage, you should bring along a JF to boot.

the OP already posted that it's limited to Ore and industrial ships.

jump freighters can jump on their on their own.

orcas, is a matter of debate.

I actually like the idea. It doesn't seem too outlandish to me.

Bridge limited to:
* Mining Frigate
* Mining Barge
* Exhumer
* Industrial Command Ship [I don't think the ship hangar contents will be an issue]

Bridging Industrials I am uncertain about, leaning towards allowing.

I assume it will require a standard system-wide cyno generator.

EDIT: There already is a database field that could be used, JumpHarmonics. Covert jump portal generators can only bridge for ships with Jump Harmonics 2 or above, so perhaps changing that to =2, or increasing it to 3, and using =2 for mining.

Industrial jump bridges should definitely be a thing. the icon can be a raised dirty fist in a cricle.

Tell me again about how every playstyle you dont engage in "doesn't require any effort" and everyone who does it needs to die in a fire. Be sure to mention about how you tried it once but it was too easy/boring/ethnic-homophobic slur.
