Choosing a place to set trap - is this ok ?

I went to null and used eve map to choose a place to set a bubble for a two man gang - thats right, all of us were ready.

Used 3 criteria, pilots in system, jumps in the last hour and number of stations.

There were two systems with over 10 pilots in them about 4 jumps apart. Both those systems had stations. In between them eve map showed at least 4 jumps per hour but no stations and either 1 or no pilots in the system.

so we set up on a gate between the systems on the route between systems. 2 hrs later no one had showed.

Any hints on what we did wrong ?

It was that glob of stars on the northeast side of map.

Anything under 20 jumps / hour is a sign of extremely low traffic. So its not all that surprising you didn't see any targets.

One method to help is to review the 48 hr jump histogram on dotlan. That can help you estimate if the traffic is continual, or just a random spike.

The truth is, with 2 of you, I would look for a busier system, and just get safe when too big a gang comes through. Its what I do when I solo camp. Then move it after 30-50 minutes, as you'll likely hit intel channels by then.

You should look for system/ constellations right next to high sec. or a lowsec constellation right between null and high sec.

Camp the bottle neck systems of traffic that people use for going in and out of null.

Example

Extreme: HED-GP

Moderate: M-OEE8 or Obe

Low to Moderate: Dital

Hit and run tactic is usually best. Hit the station systems, scan belts and kill a ratter then run like hell. If the alliance is decent enough you probably won't make it out of the pipe but it will be fun trying.

Sitting in a bubble for two hours is ********. Hopefully your lvl 4 alts made you some iskies during that time.

Sir, it warms my heart to see - for the first time on these forums - that one wears a monocle with such dignity as you do. Congratulations, kind sir.
