How to catch an experienced kiting nado?

I need a counter to an interesting scenario we just had in Curse. Noone involved is a noob, its wormhole raiders vs. local pirates around Hemin and that pipe. Anyways,

We opened a wormhole to nullsec, and a skirmish developed.

Enemy brought several nanoed alpha tornadoes (3k+ speed roughly) and an arazu. That fleet stayed at range from the wormhole (100+) and was looking for easy ganks - i.e. they would warp off at first sign of being blobbed or baited, otherwise they would alpha whatever came through while arazu would expertly damp and point secodaries entering the field, if any.

Numbers were roughly 5v5.

First we tried a curse bait with combat probing buzzard providing a warp-in. Nados, even at 20-30km and with a tracking disruptor, on each forced the curse off the field in 5% hull (lucky me). Guess transversal means nothing with a huge mwd bloom, but whatever. Thereafter combat probes were ineffective in catching the nadoes.

Then we thought, if they have snipers, so do we - we reshipped into sniping nadoes and a sentry ishtar (hidden behind wormhole), with a nano-nado as bait in null-sec (me), drawing them into a good killing position. Trap worked, I warped my bait nado to 200 off the hole, they warped their sniper fleet to a tactical, then went downwards after me, I maneuvered in a such a way as to force them into chasing me into optimal ranges of my own snipers. Arazu deckloaked to point me, at which point our snipers jumped in and tried to alpha the arazu. Arazu survived 3-4 volleys, they warped off after finishing my nado-bait.

So trap was good, we lacked the alpha (or long-range point) to break the arazu I guess, but thats not the question.

Question is, whats best way to catch a pair of experienced nano-nadoes? Their tracking was huge if they could reliably land hits on a overloaded curse approaching at an angle with a disruptor on them - and to top it off, they went FASTER then an overload curse (I was going roughly 2.4km I think, whatever max skills + overload and 1 overdrive gives on a curse).

I am thinking to break that 100km quickly, if combat probes arent working, you need either a ceptor with scram, or a tanked cynnabal or something... but its free-flowing, they would likely sod off if they saw a ceptor.... Cynnabal, whatever its tank, would die in 6-7 volleys... They would not fight a vaga I think...

Any traps spring to mind? Something that can be set up quickly? Any ship combo goes - and they stay at range and dont approach the hole closer then 100 remember... Hoe to catch an experienced kiting nado, basically?

Counter damps with more damps, counter speed with more speed, counter large guns with frigates.

5 double nano maulus'

Though, maulus is my answer to nearly everything.

2 Kiting Nados.

Serious answer.

Any frigate in the game can kill a nado.

Even an Ibis MWD, Disruptor and 150 rails could solo a nado easily.

Just dont fly directly at him or away - fly at angles and never stop moving.

Pretty sure the Talos is pretty much the only one popping frigates left and right.

Just don't fly straight at it.

GL trying to spiral in to a Nado with mids full of TC II at 100km......I speak from experience. At that range transverse is non-existent. (unless you engage ludicrous drive ofc)

The only thing I found to be any sort of counter to this set up was a rapier (armor buff) with faction webs and a good (probed) warp in. And still the best we could manage was to pop one and drive the other off field.

I think (as mentioned above) damps/webs and sentries would be a good way to go.

mmm... i think this is the only realistic set-up, yeah, long webs/points.

Frigates, specifically Interceptors, make short work of Arty Nados. Low sig combined with incredible speed means quick tackle and the ability to hold it. Just keep up transversal and don't stop moving.

As said above, I'd go with an interceptor fleet.

Your right, a ceptor that gets under 30kms will do fine. However, at 100km trying to approach a Nado with TC II and tracking scripts loaded is going to get you killed very fast. Regardless of how you do it transverse at 100kms is very low and you WILL get hit.

I think you over estimate 1400 nado tracking...

Do you have a hard on for mauli? Honestly if I was asking you what was is the best ship to catch a titan, you would probably say a sig tanked maulus lmao

If it works, why not?

Ive been on many supercap killmails, flying ships like guardians, navgeddons, navpocs, bhaalgorns, paladins, revelations etc. but for tornados why use more than you have to?

Warp 3 arti tempest and insta pop them. They cannot kill you before you pulverize them . They might run aaway if they see you arrive in scanner. but at least you won that location.

To be cler. I said tempest and not maelstrom because i TRY desperately to find somethign to use a tempest in.
