I'm going to be in the market for a new computer to pretty well play eve on (7 year comp bit the dust and my laptop is having some heating issues), I want it to be able to dual monitor as I like to run 2 accounts, any computer experts out there want to offer some advice?

Budget $800
Done a little research and currently looking at

Dell Computer deal

Any advice is welcome

Thanks in advance

You're in the US, I assume? If so, don't get a dell, or any major-name brand desktop. They are so completely loaded with bloatware and proprietary junk that you will be hamstringing yourself the moment you boot it up the first time.

There are several threads here on this forum about building inexpensive gaming computers.

I got me a puter lately and though I spent 1100$ here in PTY it would probably be around 800$ in the US.

First of all , like mentioned before, STAY AWAY from BRAND desktops, waste of time and money, unless you planning to buy a laptop.

I got:

a Core-I5 2.8
a OCZ SSD 120gig
2 sticks of 4gigs ram for 8 gigs total
a copy of Win7 home premium retail (can go cheaper with an OEM version)
a 700w Cooler Master Power Supply
a Gigabyte 1155socket mobo (pretty generic, but it works)
a Gforce 560 ti
a tube of thermal paste

you can place and install in any case of your choice and process will take you less than an hour.

You can find all the parts u need in www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com.

If you know crap about installing puters, and are patient and intelligent enough, you can check the 1000000000 videos of how TO in youtube.

But buying a BRAND desktop is ... woa, like 20th century thinking? :P

Thanks guys I even know a computer guy (brother in law) thought I'd get some advice from fellow gamers though. I'm actually in Canada not the US.

go there, it's a forum for Canada based user. They have a section that ppl ask for help with their needs.

shopbot.ca <--- price compare website
ncix.com <---- highly recommended even if you are not local. They also have an option for you to ask them to assemble at a reasonable pricing.
memoryexpress.com <--- if you are from West Coast

I suggest go to that forum and make a post, a few ppl will prolly reply. Then use shopbot to find all the part and price match it with ncix or memoryexpress.

It is true dell have the whole package. but if you want the best bang for your buck def try my advise. Especially at 800 dollar price range.(since Canada pricing is terrible.)

Def go for i3 or i5 cpu, and 560 TI or 6950 video card.

Good luck

/me takes a deep inhale

OK here is what you do. We need to find what you want.

Assumptions:
Your old PSU is about 7 years old and should be changed
You want to game on the computer
You want multiple/big monitors
You need a SATA disk drive because you probably have an IDE drive and some boards dont even have an IED port any more.

Some things we need to know:
How comfortable are you with jumping into the blue?
Are you a student at a big university?
What state are you in? (for sales tax reasons)
Are you willing to ghetto mod? (or reuse old case)

A blind build:

Note that some cuts can be made here. If you go to a major university talk to the computer engineering club, they usually have discount win 7 installs, I got one for 5$ and yes it a legit copy with key from microsoft.
