In wormhole space, using tags is pretty much an essential overview feature when shooting at sleepers in combat sites. We will tag the order in which each sleeper should be primaried and mark the trigger of the next spawn with an X so it is left last.

The annoyance we have with tagging is that for each and every sleeper entity that spawns, the tagger needs to pan through the right click menu, pan through the tag item menu, and then pan through the number/letter menu. The process is way too drawn-out and it could easily be fixed with a key binding.

This is how it'd work:

1) you press a key binding
2) a text box comes up
3) you enter any single number / letter
4) upon receiving your input, the text box closes itself and tags the entity

much faster and easier than navigating through a bunch of parallel menus with your mouse

Or they could just use WoW's tagging mechanism, they already took wow's intro box to show updates and such, might as well steal that.

Will have a look at it, but do you really need it ? Most sites are pretty easy when you have a FC calling / broadcasting the targets. Since fire is focussed on a few ship types (or a single one for bs) and the next target is being called when this prime is almost dead, why use tags ?

It's not as simple as shooting primaries and secondaries.

For incursions, tagging is CRITICAL for (assaults and above) if you want to get some semblance of fire discipline in the fleet.
Oftentimes, there will be split targeting between sniper targets and close range targets - 2 primaries running parallel.
Next target continuity is also very important as you can adjust locks according to the tag order.

Incursions and Wormholes require everyone in the fleet to know not just the Primary, but Secondary and Tertiary targets at all times. So that they can start locking those targets.

Without knowing the upcoming targets it wastes time to lock.

Tagging is Essential.

I know how you feel man, incursions are a pain in the arse if your the poor bugger who has to tag, and usually, I have to do that as the FC, I wholeheartedly agree that a simpler way to tag items is needed. Even just holding CTRL or ALT or a combination of the two and clicking on each target and pressing each key is better than tediously right clicking and guiding your self through endless amounts of pop-up windows and drop down menus.

What I do is create a column from overview settings for TAG move it to the second row and resize the column for one character. That way when I tag it, it shows up on my overview... pretty simple actually. The only annoying thing is creating a fleet to be able to tag things :P

Oh, and explaining to your fleet members how to setup their overview, if they haven't already.

Better solution: Just have 2 hot keys. One for alpha, one for numeric. Let the client sequentially assign the letter/number based on hotkey. Screw this text box input crap.

For incursion I think you are right, cause you have a mix of people who do not know each other. But the post was about WH space. Most shootings in C1-C4 are very easy to do. Dev Alt....nehh..... just a lonely forum poster here riding on his pony. Twisted

like Rassad said, it's just as important for incusions as it is for sleepers in WH space to tag your targets and start dealing dps without delay. And If you trigger 2 sleeper spawns at once in C5 - C6 space then its pretty much over for your fleet (first your logi's because of their EHP, and then you). Oh not to mention how distracting tagging can be when dual boxing logistics What?
