Miner Griefing: A few thoughts

This is just a random thought that occured to me that I thought I'd pass along. It would be fun sometime to form a corporation whose sole purpose is to strip mine several constellations/region(s) immediately after Downtime so that nobody else could get anything from there that day.

Get 30 or so Skiffs/Procurers that are in no way cost-effective to gank, hoover the minerals, and move on. Orcas kept in safe spots way, way inside the undock radius fit for tank, mining support (Range, Speed Mining links, the shield resist link). (underneath/on top of the stations?)

Basically the strategy of the aliens from Independence Day.

Mainly thought of this strategy after watching myself and a few alts destroy a belt in an hour or so. Began to wonder what a much larger, concerted effort could do.

Practical? Nah.

But it would be fun to see a bunch of people whining about not having any minerals to mine.

Granted, this is probably already employed near Jita.

Just a random thought that farted out that I thought I'd share.

No, it's not a thought about ganking miners to grief them but actually mining to grief miners in later TZs

That is certainly a different way of miner griefing.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

Sounds funny but that would mean you have to mine. Ewwy.

interesting but for people to actually notice any real difference you would need hundred or so people and for a dull activity the best you can probably do is do it around newbie systems but that could be considered noob bully what eva they call it if you did it everyday

This, my friends, is the enemy we face.

When the poison has spread so far, that people believe the best way to fight bot aspirancy is with more and greater bot aspirancy.

This is the future, but for we noble few...

I suppose if the lot of you were extremely drunk and on comms at the same time it could be bearable.
You could also just wardec all the indy corps in the area you plan on operating in and come beat up their barges with your barges and steal their minerals from their smoking hulls... would probably be a great deal more entertaining.

Edit: Added bonus of using mining ships to kill mining ships is removing the whole "unfair" whinge that inevitably arises.Twisted

Like I said, this was a random idea I farted out. Doubt I'd ever try to make this possible. But If I were.......

While the mining fleet is in operation, have a simaltaneous bumping/ganking fleet to rid the system(s) of other miners. Drive off the competition, scoop up the ore......

But yeah, this would really only be able to be run for a week max.

Unless I had The Wis' setup with his 50-man Mac fleet.

Lock roid, activate mining lasers, wait 4 seconds, deactivate lasers, lock next roid, etc.

lol.

Wait for Ice Anoms to spawn, warp to anom with disco battleship fleet, destroy ice roids, collect tears.

And we all remember how that movie ended. Some one just happens to be genius and if few short hours learns how totally alien computer systems works including security features and how to bypass them.. And down the carriers goes... Oh yeah mother ship got blowup by nuke as well...

Larger coordinated effort? Not going to happen. Highsec miners cant organize enough even to drive up prices of minerals, even tough all it would be their own benefit. Corporate level it could work and some mining corps no dough do this already.

We are Minmatar, Our ship are made of scraps, but look what our scraps can do...

lol yeah.

Can't remember the last time I saw a mining op that had more than 10 people in it.

This theory was on the corp level, not a "All the Region" level.

A dedicated group of 20+ miners who grief later TZ miners by scooping every damn scrap of ore out of the belts on a system-wide, possibly (but doubtfully) Constellation level. The coordination required to do this on a Regional level would be hella impressive but most likely impossible.

I kind of wonder if The Wis doesn't do this between Ice Anoms. All it would take would be a separate mining ship in his fleet's home station.

Came to this thread expecting one thing, got another.

I'd take it a step smaller though, and just find belts with active miners in them. Miners hate when you chew the rock out from under them.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

You have a good point there. PvE in this game needs a revamp and i only like it when i bring frigates to tough sites, but since my trading knowledge and skills are so terrible, i have to rat and run sites to make some iskies.

Going solo to run high end sites in null is fun because of the other players around, not because i like to kill those poor npc pirates.

What does that say about someone with a corpse collection?

Because... I know a guy that does that. He's... a friend.
