Null Sec Ratting

Hey guys and Gals,

Getting to the point, I am looking for a ship capable of taking down a null sec BS rat. Not looking to clear the field for major isk gains or be the fastest killer. Basically just want to warp in, kill the highest bounty rat, warp out.

I am looking to gain sec status in a somewhat more engaging way rather than grinding L4s.

Things I am considering are: Harpy, Vexor, Thorax, Myrmidon, and Ferox.

I don't want to spend ALL my isk on this venture, especially since I've never been to null before. So, my thought is Vexor or Thorax first, where if I go boom early on or even simply on the way, it isn't the end of my wallet.

Are these ships viable options for my goals in null sec? Or am I completely insane and need some tuning up here on the forums?

Any advice is appreciated!

Myrmidon, dominix, ishtar would be your best / cheapest bet.

Ishtar really

Can solo up to 10/10, with a (mostly) T2 armor fit...and faction armor hardeners are so cheap there is no reason no to.

Are we talking belts? I have done it with stabbers and ruptures. So just about any t1 combat cruiser will work.

If you are talking anomalies, then I don't know, I have not done them in null.

Belts, simply just warping from belt to belt across different systems.

Goal being sec status gains.

Torp navy phoon! Youll kill that pesky npc before you even lock him.

But anyways all your mentioned choices are very bad PvE ships even though they might be ok in PvP. T1 BS is imho most cost efficient way of nullsec PvP. Drake, myrm or practically any BC should be able to kill belt rats too although much slower.

You can do that with anything

The smaller the better with the warp changes coming.

Assault frigates. Cheap, fast, hit hard. You can do it in a pvp fit.

Edit: if your only goal is increasing sec status why not just buy the clone tags? For that matter, hunting and killing the clone rats in a well fit dessi will be more time-efficient and cost-effective than going to null even if you don't bother with the tags.

One caveat there: every time I have tried that some one warps in on me, I get the taste of blood and spend the rest of the day destroying my sec stat.

Just get a Drake.
Highs: heavy missile launchers
Mids: 3 large shield extenders, 3 hardeners as required
Lows: BCU's

Cheap and effective.

I get the impression that you don't live in null and have to fly this ship in/out? If so most T1 cruisers would be fine and don't cost much if you die.

Why nobody mentioned stealth bomber? It's like the safest thing you can rat in... All you need to tank is AB, rest can be all glass cannon.

Stealth Bomber would be another good route to go. They are very effective against BS-sized rats, and can warp while cloaked. Your worst obstacle will be a bubbled gate camp with someone that is really good at decloaking CovOps ships. You still stand a much better chance, though, than in a Tech I cruiser.

Harpy Thorax or Ferox with blasters will work but if you're ratting something that isn't weak to Kinetic/Thermal it'll be a slow process.

For belt ratting, any tier 3 BC, attack cruiser or HAC will do. You don't need anything expensive, as those will steamroll the rats there. Also, try to stick to close range weapons, as the drops can net you quite a bit of money.

Shield Vexor is fine for belt rats. It can put out a lot of deeps and survives long enough to clean whole belt.

How much sec do you need to fix?

Don't forget you can always do the Sec for tags and raise it that way Smile

If you're only going after battleships in potentially hostile null, a stealth bomber may actually be the best compromise. It's crap against anything smaller than a battlecruiser, but its bonused torpedoes can throw enough damage at a long enough range to crack battleship rats without too much trouble.

Officer fit Vindi's through Kinakka (or curse atm) are recommended, as both of these areas have great ratting or are routes to great ratting.

One word: stealth bomber

Damn that is two words.

Warp to belt, find juicy rat, decloak, kill, go to next system. Make a little loop in a quiet part of null and you get sec back very quickly.
