Been in game for 2 days (in 3 years) all I can say is. Nano is awesome. But yes hard to get kills vs competent players that understand the risk of chasing such a gang/ship. However many will try and chase so good times I guess.

Frigate PvP is iffy cause as someone else mentioned its a rock paper scissor game now (of AB, scram, web, mwd more so then anything else ofc some hulls might have some advantages) where as before you "knew" what people had fitted and could fit to counter.

Caracal is awesome. Come on 20k ehp, 200active tank. almost 300dps that is more or less guaranteed .You don't risk loosing drones, don't risk missing hits. This is with MWD so speed is decent. And it can handle most frig sized hulls with ease with this fit so even if it gets tackled it can get out fairly quick.. Solo or in gang awesome. fly 2-3 of them and the dps ain't to be scoffed at.

Saw a navy omen yesterday that pushed 4000m/s and over 6km/s overloaded. Decent dps and a really long range scram (36km if Im not misstaken). Lot of isk but what kind of gang you need to catch that? Add 2-3 more ships like that together and you won't hold them down without heavy losses. OFC if you manage to kill just one might be worth it, chances are you won't though.

Brawlers in solo PvP can work but you need to trick opponent into range and then hope you can kill before backup arrives, and that you have the better fit. When you go for it with a brawler you do or die. Kiters can play much more aggressive and test waters and if opponents get to overconfident can capitalize, if things go to **** simply warp out and continue to poke and dance again at new location.

The navy omen you described is rather slow, if it only cruised at 4K/s- a proper Fleet Nomen can go much faster. However I doubt he was scramming at 36K. Longpointing, yes- but not scramming. He was most likely using a T2 point with links. As for catching a nomen- the only real way to do it is:

Huginn / Rapier / Linked + Snaked Fleet inty

Lastly you could hope that he screwes up and gets into scram / web range.

Nomen is really good, and is along with Oracle / Curse / Slicer / Sentinel / Bhallgorn One of the best Amarr small gang / solo ships.

Thanks for info. This navy omen didn't have any kind of gang module bonuses as far as we know. Meant point not scram.

I do agree that cruiser class (including T1, HACs, T3) has the winning combination of mobility/DPS and in some cases even tank (T3). I have almost exclusively been flying cruiser hulls lately except for occasional solo BC roams a while ago (don't see people do this as much as before anymore sadly...)

Having said that, I think it should also be mentioned that a frig that gets tackled by a cruiser and can't get out of the tackle has already done something wrong. It is not easy to catch seasoned frig PvP veteran in anything other than a frig. Sure, you can fly a Caracal into a small frig gang and come out winning, but to catch an experienced pilot in a frig? That doesn't happen very often. Actually I would go so far as to say that it is easier to engage a frig gang in a Caracal than it is to catch a solo frig flown by a good pilot, as gang may hang around to engage (their mistake), whereas a solo frig pilot will simply get away and there isn't much a cruiser can do to stop him.

One of the draws of flying a frig is that you can go against many good frig pirates in low-sec. These are pilots who won't be caught easily by Caracal or any other viable cruisers out there, but they WILL fight you one on one if you bring a frigate of your own.

So in theory yes, Cruiser hull completely outshines frigate/dessies in terms of target selection/options available, but sometimes you need to bring a frig of your own to catch that elusive solo frigate roamer in your local roaming ground. Your odd of winning will surely go down compared to when you're flying a cruiser, but you will get more fight, and in some ways, these can be very good fights.

Just my two cents.

The frigs are fine.

If you are in null, generally you'll use the T2 frigs...

But for FW, good god use the T1 frigates, there made to die. Use and abuse them and laugh as you lose a itty tiny cheap ship and get some pvp experience.

Don't overfit them, put CHEAP crap on them, and work on outflying people in your 2 million isk ship, and if you get lucky and blow up 50 million worth of crap in a 1 or 2 million isk ship, laugh and enjoy.

Don't overspend on something that will blow up 3 minutes later.

Yaay!!!!

Hold on while I laugh hysterically at the notion that frigs are bad, or that arty wolves in general are good.

Ok.

Also the Jaguar is horrible. Like, literally, the worst frig in the game save POSSIBLY the rifter.

CCP hates us, tinfoil hat, rawr.

in the current meta, yah frigs are bad. T1 cruisers, long range destroyers, HAC's, navy cruisers, pirate cruisers all **** on frigs- all day every day.

Solo roaming in a frig, allows you to basically kill other frigs in 1v1ish kinds of situations. This leads you to having a very small engagement profile, which means it takes you longer to find fights you can actually take. All of these things, throw the nail in the coffin for frigs- and I am not even bringing up gate or station guns.

Thanks folks for getting the post back on the rails. This kind of info is good for everyone.

Just a thought. What about Navy Cruisers?

What niche do these fill?
Where do these ship really shine?
Yes, they are often 5 times the price of the T1 version but for folks with the isk they can be good, and we know about diminishing returns theory.
We all know just because something is 5 times the price they are not 5 times as good.

I have only had a little play with the Scythe Fleet so far.

Caracal Navy Issue
Its got some nice DPS with HAML but at under 20kms range.
Its tank is not bad but not awesome.

Caracal Navy Issue: Is bad. Is horrible, don't fly it.

Scythe Fleet Issue: Amazing RLML platorm, second only to the cerb IMO. Great kiter, and amazing anti-tackle, along with some nice utility and DPS. Whats not to love?

Vexor Navy: Just get an ishtar.

Stabber FLeet: No projection, No damage. Its bad. Fly something else

Omen Navy: Amazing Projection, Amazing Speed, Amazing DPS and drone bay. Its a great anti-tackle and DPS support ships. Great for solo when active armor fit, and an amazing fleet ship for Small gang. Great overall ship.

Dunno about OG? Had this name all eve life. been in the bastards most of the time.

that targets are scarce with frigs I wouldn't say. In low sec there are frigs all over the place thanks to fw. Almost never see cruisers in low sec. Occational cynabal, cara and vexor.

What is left to the Zealot then ?
It seems to have more defense but is slow and extremely vulnerable to frig.
Therefore less adapted to solo/small gang.

The nomen, is better than the zealot in every way. The zealot is a **** poor ship, and is really really bad.

Nomen has:

More DPS
A huge Drone bay, compared to the zealots 0mbs
Significantly more speed
Small sig

And it trades all of that for only slightly less EHP than the zealot. So yah, the zealot is complete ****. CCP did a horrible job at balancing the HAC's. IE. Rize. While fozzie did a really good job balancingthe navy cruisers, which have some really great hulls in them ie.

Scythe Fleet
Omen Navy
Osprey Navy

Those three ships are really, really nice. However after rize goes full retards again, and nerfs RLM's Omen navy will be the only thing left.

I would disagree frigs are 'useless'. There is a lot of fun to be had in them. They are also a large part of FW warfare. It's true they are cheap, but that's just part of their appeal. It makes them accessible. It makes them fun. It's good in its own way, and amongst the frigates, there are ships that are better than others.

If you constantly roll around in a Cerb though then sure, there isn't much you need to worry about, aside maybe from a possible small gang group coming in for a gank. :P

Try a frigate for a change, you'll see there is much fun to be had.

I have flown many frigs. However when i am out looking for a fight, i want to be able to engage just about anything I come across. A frig does not allow me to do any of that. It has a small engagement profile, which sucks. If you are talking about FW space i fly:

Slicer
RLM Caracla, RLM Scythe Fleet, RLM Osprey Navy, RLM Cerb
Omen Navy
