Solar Harvesting

Idea is to be able to get into close proximity to a star activate solar harvesting mods and store the energy into cap booster charges from blanks.

As a result new BPO's would need to be made available for the blanks of different sizes (+ Solar harvester mods).

Solar Harvester mods could need relative new skill books akin to gas harvesting, but maybe not as expensive. Likewise use high slots and similar specs as the gas harvesters.

The blanks are equivalent to normal booster charges only without charge. (suggest any icons be distinct from the full ones to avoid confusion).

You fly relatively close to a star within a defined distance, start the mods and over time they will fill the loaded blanks until full.

Reloading will replace full with a "blanks" selection as needed. If you stop a harvesting task before they become full you will have to repeat the process (works in complete units of full boosters.)

Balancing elements suggested in reduced manufacturing costs (no materials used to create the charge) and relative harvesting times for each charge type. But in essence a cheaper way of gaining booster charges due to extra effort put into the process.

I really do want to see sun plasma used at some point, but I would want it to be for something new, not something that already exists.

I really like this idea actually. Amarr use boosters the most. And almost all ships have a free high slot not in use by turrets or missiles.

yeah suns are very underused right now
I only see one problem that isn't really good for the already bead immersion in eve
and that is depletion suns would have to deplete some time
if not the materials would just become cheaper and cheaper over time etc

I think it should be used for more then just cap boosters maybe include the materials in ship production or something (I can hear the tears already)

also I think it might be interesting to have certain effects around suns like those of wormholes but limited to an area of say 2au
so that in some systems it could engulf some planets or even gates making for a more interesting battlefield

maybe give all suns an simple bonus to cap recharge maybe 10% so if your low on cap after a fight or so and no station around you could just sit there for a bit and let your cap recharge

It's very bad idea.
Solar harvesting mods on a ship? Why not on a dedicated vessels for making of energy? And by the way make them very cheap for empires but too expensive for player corps, like every new technology should be.

yeah honestly, the only way i woudl accept this is if it requried a DEDICATED ship that got bonuses to cap transfers,a dn had to be within X-au's of a sun to be Y% effective, like falloff, closer you are, the better.

the ships main adn only purpose is boosting cap of the ships its using its modules on directly aorund it, and make the ship squishy, like very shishy.

and with all that energy in it, it should blow up with 1 bomb from a SB, and do 10x a bombs damage to everything in 5km of it.

you know, for "balance".... also for gigglez.

It's not a very bad idea, I think its genius and an extremely plausible way of using technology as is to tap solar energy.

If concerns are about having a quick way to gain cap boosters for combat vessels, you have to remember the OP said blanks which would consume cargo space rather than full ones and take time to fill and as such I doubt therefore they intended anything but an industrial ship to perform the role effectively and efficiently as a manufacturing process for combat cap boosters from empty cells.

Regardless a dedicated ship could be useful, another ORE one, or alternatively make the solar harvesting equipment only work like strip miners on mining barges and exhumers. Potentially, be nice to see a secondary role for the Noctis possibly and again apply limited fitting capabilities to it.

It's not like an entire industry is being suggested surrounding the harvesting of Solar plasma, perhaps someone else can suggest having some kind of POS/Starbase role to fullfill that purpose and a use for the plasma?

Otherwise +1, gets my support
