You cannot switch ships from a ship maintenance bay while you are targeted. Best to just keep an eye on local and look up players entering system.

If you can trim down the potential cost of replacing clones, fly cheap fit T1 Barges. If not, fly moderately tanked Skiffs.

Most importantly, do not carelessly taunt gankers. If you're not confident in carefully crafting a good response after getting ganked, a simple "gg" will suffice.

See my "Appalling mining vessel fittings....." OP in the 'Crime & Punishment' section for sound advice on fitting your mining vessels. To be honest it's not rocket science and people should be able to do it themselves but I'm tired of seeing really pathetic ship fittings.

Other rules and advice you should be following:

1) Don't be AFK. I realise those annoying New Order people have this as their mantra but seriously don't do it!

2) Don't use autopilot when flying in your pod or your ship. It's just not worth it and certain characters I will not mention have made a career of ganking autopiloting ships & especially pods with expensive implants.

3) Don't talk in 'local' channel while mining. 'Local' channel is really only for looking at and not speaking in. Possible exceptions to this rule are for trading purposes but in 'local' that isn't very effective so best not do that either.

4) Location. Don't mine in heavily ganked systems. Use in-game systems and/or killboards such as EVE Kill to determine this. Don't mine where the New Order operations are concentrated. Having said that the New Order do seem to be dispersing of late but I think they are still somewhat concentrated in certain space areas.

Not really connected to the OP but don't fill an untanked Caldari rookie ship with forty-six PLEX and take it for a ride. Someone actually did this recently and paid the price
