What was C&P like "before?"

Since I started poking my nose around C&P about a month ago, I've noticed quite a few comments lamenting the proliferation of mercenary posts and kill rights posts, but going back through the history (not to the very beginning, but looking back to earlier this year) seems like it has been this way for some time, now.

For those of you who have been around for a while, what was C&P like prior to the merc and kill rights posts? What sort of content would be posted, and what sorts of conversations happened?

Basically the pirate story thread, that used to be the whole forum. Also people used to do things like ransoms and making people sing on teamspeak. I can't remember the last time I was ransomed, which is odd since with the insurance changes it seems more viable.

Pretty much this.
Also there were more.....personalities with hilarious posting that added flavor to this subforum.
Atleast thats how it used to be back in 2007-2009.

The C&P that was around during 'the old forum' days was probably the best iteration to date- it was more about pirate stories, mischievous adventures and generally taking any pilot you can catch for all they were worth; at the very least it was interesting to read while at work, away, or generally unable to play (even if it was that seemingly annual F-EVE moment everyone no doubt has).

Nowadays, all we have are merc advertisements that are generic, lacking in creativity, and typically boast a list of things they won't do longer than the services offered (and they all want more than they are worth usually). Every now and again we are graced with an opportune lesson in 'how to not post' by two people from different highsec merc outfits chestbeating about who is better than who (when nobody cares).

It is literally no different now than it ever was or has been and anyone who thinks otherwise is simply being nostalgic, or was associated with one of the groups doing terrible posting so they look back on it as being good posting.

I'm going to assume that "coad" is a type of toad, because thinking of something being worse than hopping mad makes me laugh.

Edit to avoid double-posting:

Looking over the board, it looks like most of the stories that are shared down are in the "The Pirate Story Thread" thread.

It seems like that thread has become the catch-all for stories and such, now, and if a person is going to post any sort of logs, it's the only place to do so. Anyone have any thoughts on if that might have been a contributing factor to C&P's "mercification" process?

It was a grand old time, where men were men, women were women, and the carebears were scared.

GARMON TROLLS!

C&P used to be worth reading because of these.

Pirates trashing pirates, substantial posting that didn't require 50 alts to reply to each other to provide peen stroking for the OP.

It had Spruillo.

He was sorta like HoleySheet1 except he was funny. And flew absolutely anywhere.

His mad passionate love affair with Lady Spank was the stuff of legends.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

You want to know what immorality in EVE Online looks like? Look no further than Ripard "Jester" Teg.

Chribba is the Chuck Norris of EVE.

Ginger Magician and His wife Running October Snow, Miz scamming Ginger, Tiller's pics of his gaming set up under the stairs..Beer and Kabobs, Black Rabbits, FE, VETO was more prevalent, great stories of conflict.

Ginger getting perma banned, then un-banned and then perma banned for threats...etc etc.

The bears back then had more teeth and less whine.

Essentially it was a forum where everyone was aware of the deadliest regions and systems, most participated in the actions or "I was there!"...but then again when it was really fun we had maybe 5k peeps on peak night.

It was fun, less adverts for this or that.

Nostalgic? yeah, you bet, but things change and new events and new play-styles emerge.

You really do not hear much from the actual players racking up the kills and being naughty.
