Sentries keep you glued to one spot, which makes you vulnerable.

Heavies do more dps, but require travel time. If you can fit a MWD, or are flying an Ishtar, Heavies win overall in most situations. Heavies are also effective against cruisers, and can even take out frigates if they aren't 'elite' frigates. It doesn't matter how many omni links you have, once frigates and even most cruisers hit their orbit distance, you're out of luck.

do they turn off your engines? no
do they stop shooting if you move away? no

no reason at all to sit next to your sentries in PVP (pve is lame, not gonna comment on it), just go pick them up after you win, or just carry spares.

In PvE, your rig your boat for sentries. 538 > 475 (or, more realistically, 467).

In PvP, it all depends on how you decide to fly. But it's not like you're obligated to sit on your drones and twiddle your thumbs.

Actually you guys got me wondering, does anyone ever use Sentry's like sentry's in pvp, you know maybe getting Warden's and setting them up 100km off of the gates, 5 covering on all sides like normal gate sentry's. That would be pretty cool

Yeah, it can be done. It's not particularly efficient, but setting up an array of sentries to hammer someone then tackling, abandoning them, and launching heavies can work.

Obviously this is moot in lowsec (which is where I spend most of my time) as the sentries will get shredded by... sentries?

But yeah, fun fact: sniper Ishtar puts more damage on target at pretty much any range than any other sniper HAC (just check out what Bouncers can do with a pair of omnis and a pair of SDAs). The fact that it can't move and/or has to abandon T2 drones to do it makes this a very niche use though.
