hello everyone. I'm still relatively new to eve as this is being my second post only.

although my sp is still low I don't see why I can't ask and plan in advance. my current aim is to do lvl 3 missions effectively. and since I can fly minmatar cruisers, I was wondering on which type of cruiser the community will advise me to fly along with its fits of course. and are they worthy to invest skills on? or one can jump straight for a bc to do lvl 3s and 4s in the future.

I would love to hear a feedback from a more experienced players. and so I'm here thanking all the participants in advance and looking forward to hear your replies.

First, Welcome to Eve.

Generally speaking it is possible to do L3s in a Cruiser but you would need good skills and it's not efficient, L3s are more of BC territory. So what I would advise is to stay in Cruisers and do L2s for the time being while training up your core skills and BC skills and when you're ready you can jump into a BC for L3s. It shouldn't take too long to train and it's a worthy investment because they share the same weapon size/tank size as a cruiser so you should have some decent skills already and you're just building on those skills. The jump from L3 to L4 is alot bigger than L1>L2 or L2>L3 so you should stay in L3s for awhile while you train Battleship skills for L4s.

For us to recommend you fits we need some details about your skills such as what are your weapon skills like (Missiles/Projectiles/Drones) and your fitting skills such as CPU Management, Power Grid Management and Weapon Upgrades.

I clearly see your point Dato. thanks for eliminating my assumptions.

Hi,

I started down the same Minmatar path as you almost exactly a year ago.

What are you flying currently? I am presuming it's either a Rupture or a Stabber? For lvl 2 missions, the Rupture works best. I recommend getting your skills up some more before moving to into a battlecruiser.

Get Gunnery up to 5, this only takes a few days. then get medium projectile turrets up to 4, and Drones up to 4, or even 5. Then there are the gunnery support skills which can boost your damage and tracking, and tanking skills. As Minmatar your're most likely to be shield tanking so go with that to start with.

Before you move on to Battlecruisers you need to consider what weapon system you want to put most of your training into initially. Of the Minmatar battlecruisers, the Hurricane uses projectiles and generally does the most dps, however I remember struggling to tank incoming damage in some of the level 3 missions. The other Minmatar battlecruiser, the Cyclone is a missile boat, and can be fitted with a much stronger tank then the Hurricane. However missiles generally do less dps although you will do the dps at longer ranges.

What weapon system you choose to favour will also impact what battleship you fly, when you eventually get to that point. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, although I think missiles generally work better for PvE.

Try not to spread your training between too many different things this early on in your career. I think it's better to be good at a few things than mediocre at many things.

I dug out a list of skills i was advised to train up when I started. The list may be a little outdated as the names of some of these skills have been changed since then, but it should be helpful.

Here is a little list of basic skills pretty much all pilots need!

Look through them and try to train these up asap.

Eventually you will want to have all these skills to level V. they make up your ships components like your capacitor, powergrid, cpu.

I left gunnery and missiles and ewar and drones out, cause those are things youll have to decide for yourself which ones to train.

Considering you fly missiles and Minmatar the Cyclone Battlecruiser is the next logical step for you. Don't do lvl 4's with it though, get a Typhoon for that.

My best advice is probably don't rush. While you get more isk and LP from higher lvl missions, if your skills aren't there you may either be very slow or even loose your ship as certain NPCs will warp scramble your ship in higher level missions.

Getting T2 drones is a good idea, to get this you need Drones V and Scout Drone Operation V, both of which are very useful. Then you want the Gallente and Minmatar drone specialization skills, and maybe the Caldari one. Amarr is sadly not worth it because their drones suck.

As for your missile skills, get the primary skills to 4, 5 is not needed at your level. You can do all the missions without T2 launchers or ammo just fine. The skills that increases missile velocity, fuel, damage and most important reduces explosion velocity or radius are worth getting up.

General support skills like CPU Management and such is good to train no matter what, along with your tanking skills. So for either Shield or Armor you should try to get T2 tank modules for your ship.

Also: Learning implants are a very good investment! At your level a set of +3 implants helps a lot. Later on maybe a set of +4's to make your skilling even faster. Search for EVEMON, it's a program which lets you plan out your skills and check what you need for different ships and modules and how long it will take you. A fitting program like EFT (EvE Fitting Tool) is very useful to fit up a ship without having to buy it and you can see some of the stats it will have with your skills.

What you want to do is go for Gallente cruiser lvl4, pick up a Vexor and go for a Vexor Navy Issue.
Just go for sentry drones lvl 4 with faction sentries, with some remote rep you can have the absolute sickest tank for a lvl 3 and some sick damage.
The reason nothing should stop you from this is: You will need 90% of this skill-set for your BS in lvl4 missions be it mealstrom or dominix at t hat point.
They both lead up to a Machariel which isn't too bad to have.
