Exploration questions

Hi,

I've got couple of questions and a lot of information I find is outdated by few expansions.
At the moment I'm having a great time flying around Syndicate/Solitude area: sightseeing, scanning, making sefe spots and avoiding being shot down too often.

1. Is there any way to increase virus stregth apart from using better data analyzer? Any skills and rigs I found increase only virus strength.
2. Are Sisters faction probe launchers and probes worth the price for sites scanning (no combat probing for now)?
3. What to do with T1 BPCs that I find in containers? AFAIK it is impossible to perform ME/PE research on them. Are they there for invention or for one-time production if someone lacks T1 BPO?
4. What does the system core node's color mean? In null sec I tend to find yellow system core, in high sec - green ones.

5. Survival in low sec and null sec.
Recently I was shot down by a very nice guy due to not paying attention to dscan while hacking a data site (I saved a pod just to be killed 2 systems further on a gate camp by EVE University but that is another story...).
Can you confirm following?
I'm completely safe in space only in two cases:
- in known space when I'm away from any gate and I'm the only person on local channel,
- in any space when I'm cloaked in a safe spot.
When doing a data/relic site I dscan and warp to a safe spot when something seems to warp to "my" site.
This won't save me when there is a cloaked ship that scanned this site before and is waiting for explorers.
My question is how to defend against such a cloaked ship? Is it possible for him to lock and scramble me before I warp away? Assuming I engage warp the moment he decloaks.

6. Purpose of different PVE content.
There are many kinds of sites and things to do and I'm not really sure why they are here, please help me understand.
- security/distribution/mining missions - people do them for ISK and corporation standings, right?
- storyline missions - for faction standings,
- cosmic combat anomalies like Drone Assembly, Guristas Burrow - they can spawn a kind of boss at the end who can drop nice items or salvage, they can also escalate to a different kind of "mission" (that I have no idea about), any other purpose to run them?
- DED Complex - scannable combat signature - spawns an "overseer" boss that drops some very valuable items (deadspace items, faction ships BPC, ...), right?
- unrated complexes - scannable combat signature - can escalate, I have no idea what loot can be expected,
- static landmarks/outposts etc. - marked by a beacon on overview, sometimes I find pirates there - no idea what is the end goal here,
- killing rats on asteroid belts - for security status increase, bounties and low/null sec can spawn "higher level" rats that drop interesting stuff.

Thanks!

why hello little hunter,
here are my answers for your questions, hopefully others will add to it.

1.you have answered your own question, skill and with that the t2 variant for data analyzer + what ever ship boosts exist on your ship.

2.once you can afford to lose the ship with sister probe launcher on it , yes it is . that beeing said i would train frigates more to get the most from its bonuses. Also rigs can increase your scanning strengh - gravity something rig. You can hoewer buy a set of sister core scanner probes about 4 mil for 8 or them or so, those will help you more than regular probes.

3. -build from them directly.

4. - i suggest you look at map setings and for an explorer you are interested in sistems with little to no people in it (to be safe) . you can configure the map to show you players in space (look in the menu for the map - ..i belive what you are looking for is in statistics tab/ number of pilots currently docked and active)

5. Survival in low sec and null sec.

I'm completely safe in space only in two cases:
- in known space when I'm away from any gate and I'm the only person on local channel,
yes if local shows nothing in known space you are alone, always have local up in a separate tab.

- in any space when I'm cloaked in a safe spot.
perfectly safe

When doing a data/relic site I dscan and warp to a safe spot when something seems to warp to "my" site.
-Yes use dscan and drop its range by a digit it will show things in 1 au form you. Make sure that you have checkmarked probes from the charges tab in overview settings. be aware that if the sistem has people in it they might have allready scanned those sites and will warp directly to it without scanning it ... or they might be inside cloaked waiting ( a bit rare this).

This won't save me when there is a cloaked ship that scanned this site before and is waiting for explorers.
My question is how to defend against such a cloaked ship? Is it possible for him to lock and scramble me before I warp away? Assuming I engage warp the moment he decloaks.
-If he is in a bomber he will scram you instantly as he decloaks.. if not it will take a few seconds so make your escape ASAP. if trapped by bomber perhaps using 1mn afterburner will save you (by getting range from him) if he does not have a web. It might be tricky for a new player to use guns and a tank on his exploration ship and ofc it will be subpar against a pvp fitted ship.

6. Purpose of different PVE content.
There are many kinds of sites and things to do and I'm not really sure why they are here, please help me understand.
- security/distribution/mining missions - people do them for ISK and corporation standings, right?
Lets say stable insk production but kinda boring and ISK on the low side.(in hisec)

- storyline missions - for faction standings,
These are given once u do a batch of 16 missions for a regular faction and provide a boost in standings increase

- cosmic combat anomalies like Drone Assembly, Guristas Burrow - they can spawn a kind of boss at the end who can drop nice items or salvage, they can also escalate to a different kind of "mission" (that I have no idea about), any other purpose to run them?
I would never run drone anomalies if i were you. no faction mods for them. Others it is possible to get a escalation but quite rare in hs.

- DED Complex - scannable combat signature - spawns an "overseer" boss that drops some very valuable items (deadspace items, faction ships BPC, ...), right?
These are the good ones, you need more skills and 2 separate ships ...first u scan it ..then you run it tipicaly in a well tanked drake or similar bc. Carefull the blood raider ones are extreamly hard due to heavy neuting and webs. Do your research first, and if possible team up (you need at least 2 months to run a 4 / 10 .. i suggest for that maybe a cruiser with drone bonuses or some such and keep your range and speed up ..aka manual flying) above 5/10 you need 3-4 months of good combat skills ..t

- unrated complexes - scannable combat signature - can escalate, I have no idea what loot can be expected,
Usually not much loot , has random chance of faction oversear apeareing wich may drop something and give you a escalation.

- static landmarks/outposts etc. - marked by a beacon on overview, sometimes I find pirates there - no idea what is the end goal here,
i dont know :)) seams like hisec stuff. You may be refering to cosmos missions wich are given in space and are a good way to buff or repair your standings twards one of the empires

- killing rats on asteroid belts - for security status increase, bounties and low/null sec can spawn "higher level" rats that drop interesting stuff.
Clone soldier tags are nice isk.. carefull the rats web in 0.3, disrupt warp in 0.2 and scram and web in 0.1. be ready for a fight . i suggest using cruisers and a very carefull eye on your dscan and local ... i love it when i catch a belt runner.:)

rules for explorers in generals
-you will lose ships , dont fly what you cant afford to lose
-safe spots , dont drop probes on gates and on the sun/planets -use a safe.
-paranoia..we are out to get you. Abandon that site if someone found it...maybe return later
-research that DED that you are about to run.
-dont fly a ship you barely have skills for ...have at least all relevant modules to 4 and your core skills to 4/5 so you can fit properly
-learn the mwd cloak trick
-the more dangerous space the better the rewards, be brave, be brave pilot. *and patient(edit)

Manufacture the item or sell the BPC. Those items don't have BPOs, so the BPCs you find are the only way to manufacture them. They don't have T2 variants either.

That said, many are worthless due to over-supply and under-demand.

Thanks for precious answers!
I quickly learned that I have to assume that what I undock is already lost and if I arrive at destination with implants - that was a good day, if I also by any chance have my ship, the day was perfect ;-)

That is interesting, thanks.

Static Landmarks are beacons that spawn up to 1/2 dozen NPC's with a slight chance of a Commander NPC spawn. These sites are basically mini Anomalies, no acceleration gates, and can be warped to at any range. They can be completed rather quickly and add a nice little change of pace to break up the boredom while doing exploration, especially if you find a majority of systems are void of any Anomalies or Signatures. The NPC's at these sites will re-spawn within a few hours of being destroyed.

The static Cosmos Complexes are a different situation. These are large gated areas with multiple pockets filled with various amounts of NPC's. Players running missions for Cosmos Agents are sent to these complexes to retrieve special items in order to complete the missions. The NPC's within these complexes usually re-spawn within 5 to 15 minutes after being destroyed.
