Failed suicide gank on a retriever what did I do wrong.

So I was in a 0.6 system with a t1 fit standard suicide catalyst with light anode cannon and caldari navy antimatter s and once I fired on the retriever it took concorde about 5 seconds to lock my ship and destroy me.

I thought I had at least 14 seconds.

My catalyst was fit with the following.

8 x Light anode cannon.

1 x Warp Disruptor

1 x X5 engine envrerator.

3 mag stab 2s

The belt was not preloaded with concorde.

The fit is serviceable (I prefer sensor boosters in the midslots). You might struggle to kill solo in 0.6 with it unless you have quite good skills - I stick exclusively to 0.5 systems when solo for this reason.

Are you sure someone else didn't gank at about the same time? IIRC 14s is indeed right for CONCORD to appear on grid, then a quarter second or so to ECM you, then you die a few seconds later. I definitely get 19s in 0.5.

Also don't worry about the failed attempt. We all fail from time to time.

Things may have changed since I last tested this, but this is what I recall:

19-21s response in 0.5
17-19s response in 0.6
14-16s response in 0.7
...

This is assuming concord was previously spawned in system. If they were NOT previously spawned, all response timers are 6s quicker.

Also, perhaps the retriever fit a dcu, which significantly increases it's EHP.

Yeah a DCU II, an Adaptive Invulnerability Field II, or two tech 1 resist rigs generally make me look elsewhere for miners to suppress. Unless I have a buddy with me.

I was 1-1 the other night on Retrievers in 0.6 systems. So close on the second one but...oh well.

The lessons I learned were that I should stick to 0.5 where I know I can close the deal solo and also to take note of the age of the pilot if I am in anything but an 0.5. The first Retriever pilot was barely old enough to be given the keys to the ship and was thus, untanked. The second was 8 months old. So, while I was close, I suspect there was something there that slowed me down just long enough for Concord to go all SWAT on me.

If the retriever fits a tank you are going to have a bad time:

[Retriever, Mineral]
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Damage Control II

Limited Adaptive Invulnerability Field I

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Skills can also play a part in gank survivability.

The 8-month-old might have had Mechanics (Structure HP), Hull Upgrades (Armor HP), and/or Shield Management (Shield HP) at Level V. When combined with tank modules, those three can make a ship harder to kill.

I agree that the problem was probably that you were the first gank in the system since downtime. I always jump my ganker into a noob ship and haul out to a nearby Custom's Office and shoot it with my civilian weapon. This draws CONCORD to me, and after being blapped, I dock up, wait the 15 minutes and then gank with the full delay. You can also check Eve Kill and see if there has been an obvious gank in the system since reset.

Another possibility is that CONCORD was already in the belt with you from a previous gank. This happens more than you might think because some miners, illegally I hear, pull CONCORD into their belts with an alt or because some gankers are sloppy and don't clean up after themselves by pulling CONCORD out of the belt after a gank.

I have set CONCORD to show on my overview for my scout. You still have to look if you are in a crowded ice belt as there could be a large number of objects showing. If CONCORD is already there, you won't live long.

Your guns....
.... Overload them! Cool

This is pure speculation, but an OGB may also help. I don't know. Ask the experts

Know way of knowing why the gank failed without knowing what the fit of the Retriever was and what your total dps is.

Props to the Ret pilot, who actually had the forsight to tank his barge.

Were you on Station or Gate? Were there Concord Present on grid? Was anyone else shooting you?

You should definitely have more time than 5 seconds unless the answer to one of these questions is yes.
