Eve fails to unload properly after being closed

Hello.

First of all, sorry if this has been answered before. I couldn't find anything like this.

I have been having some issues with Eve (Steam version) since I upgraded my machine, and I was hoping you guys could help me out.

So, I had a W8 installation before I upgraded my motherboard and OS drive (Steam/Eve files sit on a separate drive). Right now, after the upgrade, I settled down with a W7 install (W8 was misbehaving wildly), and after everything was installed, I ran Steam again, which installed its services and whatnot, as well as Eve, when I ran it again (same files, only the install routine ran).

The thing is, after the new install, the Eve "EK Agent" lingers on after I exit the game, and prevents me from loading it again before I either reboot/relog or I kill it manually using Task Manager. Also after the new install, I have lost a few item pictures (they show up as a black square).

Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this? Preferably without having to clear the whole game and re-download it (it's a pain to do it).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Can you elaborate on what exactly the "EK Agent" you refer to is?

OK, after a bit of Google-fu, it seems "Ekag20nt.exe" (the offending executable) is NOT a part of Eve (I assumed it would be, since it loads alongside the main app), but rather from VirtuMVP.

What it does exactly I have no idea, though, since I can kill it after/during game load, without any effects. For some reason, however, it is not unloaded after either the main app ("exefile.exe", which is an odd name) or the launcher exit, which is why the Steam UI overlay executable keeps loading and unloading (it thinks Eve is still open).

Any ideas on what to do now? I also had Virtu on the previous W8 install, and I didn't have any issues with it...

Again, thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I have never heard of the software you mention, Virtu MVP, but if it's interfering with the game, then I would suggest you either disable or uninstall it, and retry.

virtu mvp is from lucid logix, see here: http://www.lucidlogix.com/product-virtu-mvp.shtml

i followed this a while ago, and having worked a bit around gpu industry, it sounds interesting tech, BUT also a big source of potential issues (manipulating pipelines on the fly, removing / replacing render in the process, what could go wrong....?), thus i'm not surprised it could interfer with some games

i'd suggest th same test as CCP Atropos, test without it and see if issue still happen

Well, besides from that piece of software "lingering" after Eve is shut down, I have had no issues with Virtu. And even the lingering thing seems to be confined to Windows 7, as I had no issues whatsoever in my earlier Windows 8 installation.

In any case, I'll try both updating Virtu (there is an update available) and disabling it for Eve, to see if it works. And, since it's now clear this is not caused by Eve itself, I believe this topic can be closed.

Again, thanks everyone for the help.

P.S.: Just as an afterthought, may I suggest dropping a hint to the rest of the Dev team about Virtu? I'm sure LucidLogix would be thrilled to add another game to their list of supported apps.

[EDIT] OK, just a quick edit to confirm an update to Virtu solved the issue I was having. The "EK Agent" now properly unloads after exiting Eve. :)
