As an aside I believe that under feudal law a duchess would normally only be required to defend those systems in her personal domain or those of her subordinate nobles.

And that was a hypothetical statement of general legal advice.

Of course.

I should be more clear that no 'protection' is being offered from third parties. The 'rental' fee essentially grants access or in some cases standings with the applying corporation or alliance, and 'carte blanche' to operate in pre-designated areas to their heart's content. Harvesting, Mining, agent interactions, etc.

Aside from our organization much of the Khanid Outlands is quiet. We patrol regularly in search of targets of opportunity and have a good grasp of the 'goings on' for our little corner of the universe. Typically when an unknown organization tries to set up a long-term industrial operation we monitor them and then mark their assets for destruction. After a round or two of killing their starbases and ambushing their mining operations they either leave or decide to join our little program. If they agree to negotiated terms then we have no more issues and everyone goes on making a nice little profit.

I perhaps wasn't clear that this is an ongoing sort of business for us and I was merely offering a similar arrangement to the IGS denizens, some of which might be interested in stepping out of high security areas into low security areas, for an attractive price point lower than what you might ask for in null-sec.

I seem to attract a very regular sort of 'fan club' whenever I try to do something nice and the thread is soon full of so many bright young things sharing their wisdom.

Not you of course, legitimate question gets legitimate answer.
