Evening all,

A few months ago, I purchased a Chimera and now I can finally fly it - quite an empowering accomplishment to see it in the ship's hangar, and in space. Now, all skills discussion aside, I'd like to ask about the usefulness of carriers in general.

Don't misunderstand, I know that there is no "one single, beat all" ship, and each carrier serves it own purposes:
Thanatos: dps
Chimera: shield/POS rep
Archon: armor rep
Nidhoggur: shield/armor rep

However, while I can also fly the other carriers, it's been a long time goal of mine to fly the Chimera specifically - however, now that I can actually pilot it, I am wondering if the ship carries the same fate as the Phoenix? That is, the Phoenix is so undesired that most corps/alliances almost refuse to accept them in fleets, and won't reimburse them if lost in combat. I realize that with this being said, it might have been a mistake to invest the Chimera hull, but I can't believe that there's no real useful purpose for the ship.

I understand that most fleets in null are armor fleets, and typically Chimeras and other large shield tanked ships are primaried, but other than POS repairs - just how often (once I obtain sufficient skills) can I expect to see the Chimera asked for in large scale operations?

Depends on your alliance, we sometimes.. ok very sometimes use chimeras for fleets but mostly for repping pocos/poses. Tbh we would probably use them more if more of our triage pilots could use a chimera. but.. *shrugs* so few want to be a logibro

Triage Chimera is the ship of choice for shield repping, although the Thanatos also works for that.

I mostly use mine as a pickup truck for when the alliance moves. (throw all my junk in the back and hit the road...)

If you plan on fighting in it, more fleets will call for Archons.

This is pretty much the only reason I bought one.

Yeah bumming rides for every deployment sucks, hell my thanny it's even named Taxi.

That being said I've been burning a lot of stront lately, and it can armour out shield triage, so I don't regret the purchase.

The Archon is by far the best of the bunch, while in theory the Chimera is just as useful its suffers from poor CPU as well as the fact that outside of big blobs heavy tanked shield concepts are less common than their armour counterparts.

Thanatos: Wrong, the fighter bonus is pretty much useless, the only reason someone would call the Thanny "decent" is because it is armor-tanked
Chimera: Rarely used outside of POS-Repping, but sexy as f*ck.
Archon: Hands down, best carrier.
Nidhoggur: Like the Thanatos, but worse. In theory good at repping POS-Mods, but generaly not worth it.

"One single, beat all"-Carrier is the Archon. The rest is crap or serves a niche-purpose.

well the fighter damage bonus is great for lvl5s :)

just get an archon it can do pretty much everything (triage/slow cat/L5 runner) except repping POS/POCO ^^

rigs on the other hand are a definitive addition so more than one carrier is needed to fill multiple roles

Honestly it can POCO rep terribly.. It just cant POS rep anything bigger then a small tower...Even then it has to be right on the shields.
