I would say that a few turning points in an EVE career would be...

(a) obtaining the ability to warp cloaked

(b) the eventual grind to a capital

(c) first PVP kill

What else?

Well, let's see...

First time ganked.

First cloaky.

First time ganking.

First heist.

First 1000+ fleet battle.

First revenge.

First PvP kill.

First time WH diving.

Far too many firsts that change your idea of "EvE," or as you call it, a turning point. Way too many to count.

Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

First time "quitting for real" and giving away all your stuff.

First time biomassing all your characters (and writing petitions to get them restored 2 months later).

The biggest personal turning point in my career is when I stopped trying to be nice and keep everyone around me happy and only started thinking for myself. Haven't gone back and am having a lot of fun now.

In exactly this chronology:

1)Draek with T2 Launchers
2)T2 guns on my Thrasher
3)First solo kill
4)500 solo kills
5)20mil SP (that was the point where I first considered myself flexible enough to fly whatever I wanted)
6)leaving my first corp (they went to ****) and selling my moon mining operations
7)AWU V/Drone Interfacing V

Turning points, as in changed the game for me?

In chronoligical order -

Running sacrificial point in Stain for RC when I was new.

Warping cloaked (in a bomber)

Ransoming my first hulk in wildlands, after swearing off sov warfare for good.

Scanning cloaked (in a bomber)

Hacking (post odyssey) This was the missing link for me. Something about it made anoms this thing I could actually play in stead of be bored with. Because fighting NPCs is broing, and sitting around waiting for modules to finish is basically just mining.

Taking my first "backdoor wormhole" trip back to null, and making 700 mil off of the first anom.

Using said gains to help form a new corp.

Piloting my first completely specialized exploration ship.

What can I say. PvP is fun but something about the money, minigame, gambling, and general flippin the finger at blobs I get out of doing the new style exploration bit sealed the deal for me.

It's just more fun to slip gatecamps, play probe based mindgames, **** off sov residents, **** off WH residents, finish a crucial hack before the local inty and friends get done probing you down, and generally push the limits of risk in search of the big score for me now.

It's like, when I did all that PvP, even when I won, I lost. I was always in it for the ISK, and PvP isn't a great way to do that at the personal level. New exploration, I can operate at that level, in hostile space, and when I win I come home with substantial profit every time, but I still get to play in the arena and juggle the sorts of threats I did before, so it's still satisfying.

Or maybe I'm just getting old. I don't know.

1. (day 3) When i realised that my income would go up if i salvaged.

2. (week 2) When i realised missions were stupid and wormholes and exploration were better .

3 When i finally joined a corp that played as a group and were fun (about 2 hours before the next turning point)

4. When i realised that PVP is where the fun is in this game (about 3 weeks after returning to game from a ragequit)

5. When i realised that passive income streams were a good idea (after far too f-ing long)

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

Turning point for me was when I realized I was considered a "bitter vet" and remember the "good old days" of Eve...
