Hi there!

As an adjunct to Soundwave's thread here, this thread is collecting specific improvements relating to the INVENTORY SYSTEM.

What, you may ask, is the inventory system precisely? It's your stuff, and things relating to doing stuff with your stuff!

More accurately, it's things in hangars and containers, and organizing your hangars and containers, and moving things around between hangars and containers. It's not the market or the assets window or S&I though, for example, important as those things are.

Rather, it's that stuff you do with your stuff every single day that's always a little more complicated than it really ought to be, and while each little speedbump is an extra second of work, it adds up to wasted man-years over time.

What I would very much like in this thread is the collective community to pool their brainpower and come up with a short list of small, targeted fixes. We might get to make ten small changes this round - if you make a huge list of stuff we might do something you don't care about instead of something you really do, and if you suggest major rewrites of entire systems we'll probably just ignore them What?

To give some examples, on the small end we might do something like adding an "auto-stack" option, while on the big end things like tabbed personal hangars in stations is about as complex as we're likely to manage this time around.

GIVE ME YOUR SMALL THINGS AND WE MAY FIX SOME OF THEM.

Thanks for your time!

There was a post in a previous thread about having the meta number of the module where the tech 2/faction, etc. symbol is.

I thought that seemed like a good idea, would really make sorting stuff out a lot easier.

well, it would be awesome if you could see the ME/PE of blueprints in the details list.
also, if you could stack BPO/BPC with the same ME/PE.

Your idea for Tabbed personal hangers is a fantastic one. I myself have a bunch of station containers all labelled for different things - Items to sell, Ship equipment, Ammo Etc. if I could create tabs on the station hanger instead of using dozens of containers I would be very very happy.

As someone who lives in W-space, ship maintenance arrays are my biggest time-waster due to the loading time of a full SMA. (Bookmark cans were the biggest, but that fix is on SiSi \o/ ).

One solution might be to make them use the Corporate Hangar Array system for storage, but that might be beyond the scale of a "small thing."
Security issues aside (and there is a valid argument against making theft harder), having them use the CHA tabs might reduce the load times.

Edit to add: Oh, and the ability to repackage modules in a CHA would be nice

Packaged items ?

What's the difference between a non-damaged, non-packaged item, and a packaged item ?

Actually, the question is "Why is there a packaged status for all items ? Is it a technical issue ? If yes, is it fixable ?"

Another quite important thing regarding inventory :

When it comes to tidying our stuff in separate containers (One for Mission loots, one for T2 stuff, one for faction stuff, one for ammo and so on), why is there a "locked" status ? I mean, It's my personal hangar, I don't see why I should unlock or lock my items in a container. This alone makes tidying with containers annoying :(

Also, this is a bug, you guys might want to fix it :

Let's say you have 20k fuel in your fuel bay (3k m3 fuel bay on a carrier, 20k fuel means it's full of fuel).

Since I don't use my carrier every now and then, I don't know if it's really a problem that occur often, but it happened to me twice already : When I try to create another stack of fuel (Let's say I want to split my 20k stack in two), it says something like "You can't because the destination container.....", basically, it says "It's full". But I just wanted to split 20k in two stacks of 10k :(

That, and a fix to used lasers, you know, the ones who are constantly filling up the upper part of your hangar...

* Tabbed Hangers.

* Secure Containers default to items not locked.

* Contents of containers is searchable from their parent / assets.

* A proper category view such as on windows, where in the folder you have the title on its own row, and then the items listed below it, a line break, next title etc.

* Filter by similar items search. Right click on Invuln II > Show Similar > Displays all invulnerability fields.

* Cans in corp hanger re-namable by people with the ability to take the can from that hanger.

Auto-stack. Goddamn yes! Please! Big smile

And from the poster 2 posts up:

* Secure Containers default to items not locked. <- that is one big annoyance. Evil

I am too self-important to search for this, so:

The ability to repackage modules in CHAs. I have 9 of the same module in single stacks and I am literally ready to go nuke iceland (in Eve, by going through the Eve gate) if this doesn't get fixed. It's ridiculous that we cannot repackage and stack healthy items in wormholes. NUISANCE FACTOR should not be part of the difficulty of it.

Edit: If this is already coming, then good. If not...nukes.

Often, when I try to move a single stack of things (for example ammo) from my hangar to my ship, the game also selects 3-4 adjacent tiles. When I abort the transfer, all of the selected tiles are moved to the bottom in the hangar inventory and I have to search them through all the items again, which makes me a sad panda. I don't know if the problem is eve-specific or maybe has something to do with my own computer.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

-A little bar on the icon showing how damaged the item is. Useful for crystals and normal modules.
-Colour coding items
-Making an item 'sticky'. It stays at the top of your hangar, sorted along with other sticky items. A little symbol/colour to differentiate stickied items.
-Clicking and dragging an item to the top or bottom of your hangar window scrolls the window up or down
-'Sell queue'. Right click > sell on a selection of multiple items. The selling window for each item pops up one after the other.
-Double click on item in hangar to fit/reload/put in drone bay.

Asset window search should find items and modules inside containers, cargo bays and fitted to ships.

This. Or at the very least, the assets window separating ships from the rest of your junk.

Something else for the assets I've been wishing for years, is a way to label individual stations that tells me Station A is an ammo dump for this or that purpose, or I'm selling this or that mod here. In the past I used station cans for this purpose because they list at the top.

Having the assets window search your containers would certainly help finding those faction mods you know you have somewhere but can't remember exactly where. Maybe have a tickbox for "search inside containers" or such to make it easier on the database if needed.

One of the recurring tasks I do is "collect loot".

Mission loot:

- I have a bunch of "good loot" that I want to sell
- I have a bunch of "bad loot" that I want to reprocess

I'd like an easy way to tell those apart. The absolutely most awesomest thing would be a column in cans/hangars that shows the current market average for the item, but that's maybe a bit heavy on resources. The second best was how it used to work:

- I had a can with "bad loot" in it, in "icon" mode.
- When I got new loot, I dropped it into the "bad loot" can. All the new loot showed up at the bottom of the list.
- I hit "stack all". Of all the new loot items, those who already had a stack in the can were moved "up". At the bottom of the list, only those items of the "new stuff" remained that were truly new.
- Then I could check the "truly new" stuff and put the expensive items into the "to sell" can, and leave the bad stuff in the old can.
- If I want to reprocess, I can take everything out of the "bad loot" can except for 1 item per stack.

This was a very handy loot sorting procedure that got made obsolete by the "setification" (and the subsequent "sort-on-stack-all") of the inventory system. Something that helps with this would be really appreciated. :-)

Other ideas:

- Have the "search as you type" box also search group/category names
- Make it possibly to "repair", "repackage" and "reprocess" inside cans
- Make it possible to manage cans remotely: Look into them, search them, put stuff into them (like the remote "deliver to" option), take stuff out of them (this would actually be huge, we have a few offices just because we need regular remote usability for items, adding a lot of annoying "move stuff between offices" once or twice a week)
- Make it possible to set can names in a corp hangar if you can take them out

Thanks for looking into this stuff :-)

Create FOLDERS in your corp hangar in w-space (could be stations as well).
Not cans, not nothing. Just folders you can re-name and everything.

Please Sad

--- Extremely useful ---

Be able to create x amount of stacks from Y items.

Example given:

Item A: 100 units
Item B: 50 units
...
Item N: N units

Select all, right click and hit the "create x stacks"

x -> 5

Item A -> 100/5 -> 5 stacks of 20 units of item A.
Item B -> 50/5 -> 5 stacks of 10 units of item B.
Item N -> N/5 -> 5 stacks of N/5 units of item N.

The "Modulus" or the rest that can not be divided will be left in the bottom of the inventory window.

This would be extremely useful for dividing loot amongst fleet and creating stacks etc.
Please consider it.

Add this with the ability to mount a saved ship fitting with items stored in containers.

In space, right clicking the cargo hold button should bring up small icons and/or text to open up other hangars such as drone bay, ship maintenance bay, ore bay and corp hangar. In station there should also be some kind of easy way to open these hangars too.

Yeah the code in charge of stacking stuff in hangars- specifically fuel hangars for capital ships or corp hangars for Orcas needs work. I don't know how often I try to drag stuff to a fuel/corp hangar only to be told that there's not enough room, and please pull out your calculator to do the math to figure out exactly how many items I'm allowed to move because the game is too lazy to do it for me. Also - restacking things in a nearly full hangar is a PITA. I realize you need code to prevent accidental duplication of items, etc, but as you approach the "full" limit of a hangar it no longer becomes possible to auto-stack things.
