Potentially suicidal null sec explorer. Please help

**** FYI *****
CCP confirmed to me that this is gameplay. You can get a frigate right alongside a 0.0 data tower and loot effectively. Larger hulls such as the PILGRIM however can't get close than about 3500m to a 0.0 data tower.

Explorer be warned - this makes looting stuff thats ejected on the other side impossible.

Spoiler - Null sec data tower repels ship ( Pilgrim) to 3000+m making loot collection v v hard. Same towers in lo sec don't do this. Feature or Bug?

After over 5 hours RL time i hauled my lo sec ass into 0.0 Drone space via WHs Im going into null and i am going to do the hacking game. Jeesus. CCP what i am about to do for you i thought.
After another couple of hours including a gate with 30 bubbles on it i get to Data site. hooray
Cant get closer than about 3000m because of the big whirling thingy that snags my ship
When the loot spews its mostly going the other way so i cant get around the 6000m diameter area and lose all the BPC s
All three cans the same. Most of the spew cans are impossible to get close too even if i made them Primary

This is a taking the ****, 7 hours to get zero reward because of the LUCK in being in the right spot when hacking

Do hi slot tractor beams solve this ( seems not from what I've read) or was i just unlucky with the type of site?
Lo sec sites let you nuzzle right up
Help - feelings of suicide here

I've never been unable to get within range of a can due to the animated rings...

My method: Approach target can. Look at it. Set camera to be looking straight down at it. Activate minigame, minimize every other window (except local in null). Win minigame, watch the loot spew. Loot the appropriate ones for the site you're in.

I typically run these in a covops frigate, with an afterburner active, and have no trouble snatching up the spew I know will have the good loot in it (cargo scanner is your friend).

This worked up over not getting the BPCs? Roll

There are worse things that can happen.

Wait till you do finally get them and someone decloaks, blaps you, and then takes your newly acquired BPCs away from you.Twisted

Also, don't joke about suicide especially when its just pixels....

I've never encountered what you're describing. Whether low or null (I don't launch probes in high, so no idea there) I'm always able to get as close as I want to the cans.

And no, tractors don't work. You'd have to lock on to something to use them and, well, you can't lock on to loot spew cans.

Having said that, I've never tried drone space because **drone space** Roll. Go to Sansha null if you want to actually get a payout.

Seems you need a lecture if you don't understand why you shouldn't say you're suicidal when you are not. If you really are suicidal from the "problems" you describe I would say you need to stop playing this game and go see a doctor.

As for an answer to your question, the only question I saw at the end of you suicide rant is easy to determine yourself.
This is not a hand holding game but one of survival.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I've since tried the same data towers in lo-sec and I can get my Pilgrim right up against them flying between the rotating discs. in null however I could not get my Pilgrim closer than 3000 -3500 - sampled about a dozen towers and all bounced my Pilgrim. So I don't know if this was a feature of null when using a cruiser hull or a bug.

Guess I'll try in a frigate, but if anyone knows please post and save my legs.

Thx

Agreed - thought I'd give it a go in null and it was a lot of RL hours down the pan - so far.

Just re-read your post . Are you saying that even with a frigate sized ship the whirling things keep you out at 3000+ m?
Perhaps its just specific areas of null?

it doesn't happen in lo-sec, even with a Pilgrim.

He's right, problem is you're just one of those people who takes offence at anything they don't agree with.

Fact is that nobody forced you to take a ridiculous route into nullsec in a pilgrim. CCP doesn't owe you anything. Stick to wandering aimlessly around Jatari doing your little sites and getting one kill a month in your stealth bomber. The rest of us will be having fun instead of whining.

Both of you are in error.

Read the question before jumping in, which is why you fail in all you try to accomplish.

Let me strip the personal content out and reform the question for you.

Why are data towers repelling my ship to 3000m in null but allowing me right up alongside in lo sec?

It might be the norm or it might be a bug If you have the answer you are welcome to post.

(Stealth bomber? One kill a month ? )

No, we're not in error. You're talking about very serious topics like suicide over something ridiculous like running a site in an internet spaceship game. Further, you're being extremely hostile to anybody who doesn't tell you what you want to hear.

I can answer your question, but I'm not going to because I no longer have any desire to help you.

And yes, stealth bombers and one kill a month. I'm referring to the one single tactic you have of decloaking a stealth bomber on top of explorers in sites you already scanned down as a means of getting kills.

its not the fault of CCP that it took you 5 hours to get to drone space, especially as you can do data/relic sites with a frigate now.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

Maybe look up Battleclinic for the correct API stats?
Why are you now whining about me killing people - its called PVP?
Just a simple answer with regards to the data towers would be responded to politely.
Perhaps look that word up in a dictionary too and then please post on your main.

(If this is your main, try some lo- sec PVP to supplement your unremarkable verbal combat )

So the question is about null sec data towers but hopefully a Dev is going to tell me if its a bug or not.

Translation of the above post for those interested:
- "I don't kill 1 ship a month. I kill about four or so. I are leet pvper"
- "I don't understand when people are insulting me, so I'll assume people are whining."
- "I only act with basic courtesy towards people who tell me exactly what I want to hear."
- "Post with your main and then run some data sites, I'll undock my stealth bomber for leet pvp against your exploration frigate"
- "I don't understand how the game works, time to file a bug report"

No. I approach, and am constantly bumping off the thing at 0 when hacking. I have never been bounced out of hacking range, which IIRC is 5k?
