Looting with the Mobile Tractor Unit on Singularity

The Mobile Tractor Unit is available on Singularity (there's a ~1B sell order up in 6-C). I wrote a little story about my quick experimentation, the basic gist of which is:

  • 45 seconds to deploy
  • 1 beam, range 125km, tractors items at 1km/s
  • appears to only operate when a capsuleer is on-grid (known bug)
  • will only tractor and loot wrecks outside a certain range


From what I can see, this thing in its current form is no risk to salvage businesses.

Of course all the details are likely to change before Rubicon is actually released.

They either need to boost the tractor speed or make it tractor multiple wrecks in same time, you don't want to slow your ticks if you are going to wait for this mobile tractor unit to finish.

Lady Areola Fappington:  Solo PVP isn't dead!  You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing.

I think CCP is doing the right thing and starting off cautiously. There are already different meta-variants of the Space Yurt, so it's not hard to believe that there will be multiple variants of the Space Roomba.

The largest single change they could make is to allow fracturing & looting to occur when there is nobody on grid to supervise the device. Perhaps there is a sound design decision for disabling operations when there are no capsuleers on grid, we'll never know.

This unit is already suffering from mission runners tears and complains, they are worried about this unit being better for tractor and looting than their Marauders, therefore the unit's speed was cuted in half, like he they could not use it like the rest of us... >=(

The worst part, it stops working if you leave the grid...

Let's hope some changes are made before it goes to tranquility... =(

Are my fellow Marauder piltos really so dumb that they do NOT see that a 'Rauder can carry loads of tractor units?

Except not really. They take up precious cargo space, they have to be placed at least 5000m apart and its been reported they can ping pong wrecks between them. The speed of the tractor does not matter because its a ten second delay between actions or the next tractor pull.

Of course this device can be made and used on sisi, but at the moment its not a very useful item.

For Marauders: drop a depot and refit to tractors (50 m3) then salvagers (5 m3), or salvage drones (5 * 5 m3 = 25 m3).

As Fozzie said here this structure is bugged and it is not working as intended. So it will work when left alone and it will loot wrecks properly when they will fix bugs.
