Seems that your experience is similar to OPs.

The OP is generally talking about 1 on 1 and small scale engagements I think.

I can agree that most engagements are rather short lives and would offer more fun if they lasted longer.

But... Reality is many engagements are actually really short. Combat itself is far more about controlling the field and the terms if engagement before actually engaging in a match.

I think if would be more fun if these battles were longer, but they would be less important, less thrilling overall.

PVP is about combat yes, but 95% if PVP happens before the first shot is ever fired. That is how it is really done and that is how EVE does it and it really is exciting.

Have you seen those thousand man fleets with 4 hour long fights with 100% TIDI.

Boring as hell, but you can't say those are short.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

A lot of fights are over quickly. It's good adrenaline that way.

But try getting into a 1v1 fight where both sides have Incursus'es. Takes like 45 minutes before somebody dies.

Its not uncommon for your guns to go off prematurely while still messing around in highsec your first time.

Eventually, youll be able to control yourself enough to get to lowsec , and even null (if your partner is interested) before your missiles leave the launchers.

One day, you get to play around in the Wormhole..and youll be all..WOW! THATS AWESOME! Hell, you may even want to smoke afterwards.

My experience of pvp is that i usually try to avoid it, but when it's unavoidable usually about 5 to 30 people want to join in.
I find it most satisfying travelling with a gang of about 15 when we jump on 1 or 2 really hot looking travellers.

Now i hope this post hasn't disturbed anybody too much, as this thread is being taken seriously by some and made a coarse joke by others.

If it lasts for more than 4 hours, you're supposed to consult a physician immediately.

I don't think PvP lasts long enough, it seems like you're fitting a ship and looking for a fight about 99% of the time, and the 1 percent of the time you find a fight its over in seconds. In star fleet command, ships could fight each other for 5 minutes to an hour easily.

If anyone has played starfleet command or starfleet battles you know the type of pvp I am talking about, in eve you barely get to enjoy the battle, as soon as you are primaried its over, and you can't stick around to watch either. I would like a spectator mode to watch fights from the station.

Simple solution , GO PLAY STAR COMMAND THEN ...

I can confirm frigate fights lasts around a minute or two.

But we like it that way. Short and exciting, we get exploded and just rush home to get into a new ship.

If you want longer fights... Get into bigger ****, in bigger fleets with more competent FCs.

We don't need to artificially prolong any fights by adjusting HP levels. Works fine as it is.

You need to enjoy all of the PvP. PvP is not the 30 seconds it takes to blow up their ship.

Most of the work in PvP occurs before the engagement. Tricking them into engaging you where you have the advantage, trying to make sure they don't have the advantage somehow, judging their capabilities, finding them, catching them, scanning them, etc etc etc. PvP is mostly decided before the actual engagement begins. It's all about prep.

i don't think you have very much experience in PVP in EVE. i've been in fights that lasted hours minutes and seconds.
as good as SFC was back in the day, it doesn't even compare to EVE, totally different games.
examine how you're doing things and ask for help.

I've played all star trek games over the years, i know well the type of PVP you speak of, it was terrible compared to what we have these days in newer games, SFC was slow and all about very small gang warfare. STBC was well thought out but never trully supported for online play.
armada was about the best of them if you wanted a large fleet fight.
but most times the battle results would be manipulated with people making screen shots in paint showing scores that never happened.

learn to fly the ships you tend to use, practice is everything in EVE, refuse to do it at your own loss.

sure isn't that coming in the next patch with twitch, sure hell you can do that now if you wish, get a buddy to broadcast what he is seeing, then you can sit and watch for as long as you want to, sure if it's just wanting to watch fights, check out mad ani and his channel, plenty of good fights to watch for as long as you wish.

bad idea to compare different games though, SFC was nothing like EVE, all they have in common is combat based in space, nothing more.

Think it's bad now, should have seen it before they added the 50% total HP (Hull, Armor, and Shield combined) to all ships years ago.
