I dont see any propulsion engines pushing the ship in the opposite way to stop its velocity.

So Im curious as to how ships break/slow down in eve .. LOL

thumbs up if you like :))))

Are we really going to debate the physics of a fluid universe space submarine game again?

Magic.

Its done by ******* magic. ******* magic comes out of one side, does some magic **** on the other side, and bippity boppity who gives a **** the ******* ship stops because ******* reasons.

Edit: Seriously? in the time it took me to write that, some other ******* said magic too?

Theres your ******* answer. Double checked for accuracy. Magic.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

How a ship breaks and how a ship brakes are two entirely different questions.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

When a spaceship wants to brake, it opens its intakes and collects shiptoasts from the local environment. The shiptoasts add considerable mass to the ship, thereby reducing its velocity to near zero. When it needs to move again, it ejects these shiptoasts into the forumspace, thus returning to normal mass.

It should be noted that certain modules, like the MWD or 1600mm plates interfere with or otherwise reduce the efficiency of these shiptoast intakes, and so it takes you longer to slow down with those modules equipped.

Ships generally break when you apply sufficient firepower to them.

Fun answer: MAGIC!

Less-than-fun answer: lore-wise has to do with the warp drives. They affect subspace even when not in use and it acts as "drag" on a ship.

Real reason: the DEVS decided to use fluid Newtonian physics model because actual zero-G physics are a ***** to maneuver in.

Given your name, I ask that you don't post in the "1 and 1/2 months later" thread where the OP hates cats, though we call her the crazy cat lady for her infamous quote of how she wants me to die in real life.

Ships slow down due to drag from those white flecks of stuff you see passing by when you're moving. I call it spacepoo but I'm sure there's a technical term.

The ships shields act in a similar way to a stasis webifier. The energy barrier is directed in such a way as to oppose the motion of the ship. :roleplay:

Personally though, I use my crew of leprechauns to add copious amounts of gold to my ships to increase mass and slow it down.

This one's a bit over the edge guys.

Locked for breaking... well, pretty much all the rules.

Magic. Because ships with engines on all sides would look crap.

I've never bought fuel for any of my ships.. I figure the girl working the hangar likes me and fills the ships for free.

Good question OP! And for all the other questions you never wanted an answer to..

Please see my thread Q&A with Doctor 0000

Somehow it's still more popular than T&A with Doctor 0000.

Tell me again about how every playstyle you dont engage in "doesn't require any effort" and everyone who does it needs to die in a fire. Be sure to mention about how you tried it once but it was too easy/boring/ethnic-homophobic slur.

Or you could just put the engines on one side and rotate as necessary.

Ships break by moderating their Infinite Improbability Drive. The "thrusters" you see are really just a exhaust system for the reactors.

Not even that. Exhaust would imply that mass is being ejected which implies that ships contain an infinite amount of stuff to shoot out as flame from faux-thrusters.

But what is really odd is why hasn't someone put (huge) truck-nuts on a thorax?
