Market Blunders

Today someone bought an item from me that was posted at 23.8 million for 238 million!! I don't really know how you mess up a buy order but I'm not arguing with free money, especially that amount lol

I've also been pretty lucky and have yet to make any mistakes when posting buy/sell orders, apart from a few sell orders with an extra digit costing a few extra million in taxes.

So to the point of this thread, I'm just really curious to hear some other people's blunders they've encountered!

Forgot a decimal point and paid few hundred mil in fees.

Accidentally bought 700 instead of 70 of things.

I bought a freighter in Vale for 1.75 million. It has served the rental empire well. Cool

Damn I honestly don't know what I'd do if I did that. Being on the losing end that is lol

I was station trading PLEX a while back and got distracted midway through setting up a sell order, ended up selling for ~480,000 isk...

I think I managed to curse in every language in existence after that effort.

Thinking in thousands but forgetting the extra three zeros cost me a couple of billion on a sell order a while ago.

Yeah, market orders when tired or drunk aren't a good idea even if you copy/paste.

After Apocrypha came out, I was a relatively new trader with a billion, and I saw the prices of large cargo rigs plummeting. Thought this was a good time to buy and invested all I had. I had read about the rigs changes but somehow could not put two and two together.

To cut a long story short, I did not cut my losses and was stuck with the rigs for ages.

Any colour you like.

These stories remind me of that message that pops up.

"You are selling this item at 87% below regional average. Are you sure?"

That message is like a smoke detector. Infuriating most of the time as it has so many false alarms (mine loves cheering every time I cook a steak), but a total lifesaver when you really need it.

As for losses: Had no significant typo losses. Worst loss I can think of was overestimating the impact of the Caldari Ice Interdiction and buying about 2b of ganking equipment (mostly Catalysts and tech 2 blasters) hoping to make a quick turnaround, only to have to sell it off at a loss later. The loss wasn't bad, maybe 400m.

The problem is with those false alarms I rarely take them seriously anymore and just click 'yes' .

Been on the receiving as well as the giving end of typos. Don't think either of them touched the 1 billion isk mark though. Since my first few mistakes I have learned that rushing your order updates is not a good idea.

All in all, I received more from others' mistakes than I lost through mine.

Most memorable on the receiving end: selling a batch of t1 cruise missiles for 300 million.

Couple of weeks ago i was looking through transactions and saw 200 mill on some random turrets. I was sure i didn't have that many on sale so i checked and indeed my sell order had been about 43 mill.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

One mistake that happened me some times is to forget switching the trade window to-from advanced and so instead of dumping to buy orders I auto-created a sell order right above those.

The minus is the loss of broker fees.

The plus is the amazingly irated emails I got by other traders for undercutting them so hard Lol

Broker FEE ! I paid a 200 million broker fee one time accidentally putting up a stack of implants for Billions a piece instead of Millions ! .75 of 300 billion is a lot of isk

I've been on the losing-end of the too many zerons thing in a 500 milion mistake. After I learned been on the winning end dozens of times on of the same scale. Biggest windfall I got on a single market order was getting 5 billion worth of stuff for 5 million. I doubt that will happen again

I send mails to those ppl too, thanking them for not having to put up my own buy order and attached broker fees. I LOVE those mistakes: instant filled buy order without having to pay the broker for who spots them fast enough \o/

Damn hard to believe some can lose tens of billions due to simple decimal mistakes and whatnot. Haha
