Low FPS after upgrading to Windows 8.1

Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 8.1, then subsequently updated the NVidia drivers to the latest (R331). I'm not sure which is the culprit, but now I have horrible FPS in EVE. Literally, about 2 FPS (according to the ingame graph). Everything is laggy, takes about 5 seconds to respond to button presses, and is completely unplayable. Has anyone else had this problem after updating? I've reinstalled the graphics drivers, chipset drivers, and sound drivers. I'm going to try rolling back to the previous drivers.

Specs:
Windows 8.1 64bit
Asus ROG Maximus IV Motherboard
16GB RAM
Geforce GTX 770
I544CJON35 Aldent
Incursion Omega
Cosmos Origins

I am on 8.1 and having no issues, other than the client won't update to ody 1.2. But that is something else. I would put the blame on the video drivers.

I fixed my problem. It was in some sense caused by the upgrade to 8.1.

Full explanation: I have my Documents folder on a separate partition; theoretically all I should need to do to change the location is just right click on C:\Users\MyUser\Documents and change location, but this wasn't working for certain games needing to write to Documents. To get around this, I deleted the C:\Users\MyUser\Documents folder completely and made a junction point (basically a symbolic link) to the documents folder.

This worked perfectly fine until I upgraded to 8.1. Something during the upgrade process broke this link, and it no longer redirected to my documents folder. I found this was causing my low FPS by running the log server that comes with EVE. The particular messages I saw showed that EVE couldn't write to the documents folder, and it was trying to log this message...TO THE DOCUMENTS FOLDER! That failed, causing it to try to log it again, and again. Thousands of times. Never would have known was it not for the log server. After correcting the link to Documents, everything is good.

I am on windows 8.1...i have mouse lag problem. If i move my mouse my FPS drastically drops down from 90 to 30...this is in other games too what are not using raw input.

Second that. Mouse is terribly laggy/unprecise since Windows 8.1.

Same problem to me. Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 EVE has become unplayable. I hope that something can be done because otherwise EVE is done for.

Enjoy microsoft windows 8.1.
EVE is not the only game/program affected by it.

Several articles on the web are saying, affected games are using methods which are depricated since a long time to capture mouse movement instead of using DirectInput or reading raw input. (details: http://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/1oor43/windows_81_warning_for_gamers_issues_with/)

I would asume there will be no fix on OS level because the changed behavior in 8.1 seems to be intentional. Besides the "workaround" (running in eve in Windows 8.0 compatibility mode as administrator switching DPI stuff of) there isn't much we can do at this time....and the workaround is meh...running stuff as administrator which shouldn't require such high privileges isn't the way to go.

I've opened a bug report via ingame reporting tool but didn't get an answer yet (maybe it got lost in space somwhere...)

Issues with 8.1 here as well.

First client opens and runs fine. If I try and open another eve client it starts running at 2-4 fps.

Worked fine on Win 8.

Opened a ticket, too. Got a fast answer but that answer didnt help in any way to solve that problem.

Game is still unplayable with that mouse lags and frame drops.

Be honest ! Who ever thought that there will be such massiv changes between 8.0 and 8.1 in adressing I/O devices like a mouse.

Hum after reinstalling win7, switching between 5 nvidia drivers, I was still having very heavy CPU spikes... then I opened my case and noticed a cable blocking the CPU fan xD

So now everything is ultra fast, guess I'm a moron.

If that can help any one, who knows...

As soon as I switch from Fullscreen to Windowed mode, the mouse pointer behaves like it should. As soon as I use Fullscreen mode, laggy and jumpy mouse pointer is back again. Heavensend, did you try that?

Tried all possible options now. Nothing works.

Last 2 options.

1. I wont play EvE until fixed

2. Reinstall Windows 7 (only reason for doing that EvE ?!)

I have to consider now Sad

Microsoft is aware of the issue and working on a "fix":

First off, we want to thank our gaming community for the detailed feedback many of you have provided on these issues. While we don’t have a date yet for the release of a fix, we are working to get these issues resolved as quickly as possible. The “mouse lag” issue is actually several different issues that could vary based on the game, input methods used, etc.

There are a few workarounds that have been found to help some of these issues, which we list below.
...list of issues...

Is CCP working on something to enable raw input in Eve? A little bit of feedback would be nice...
