I care not for spacebook likes.
But if I don't get 1 million likes by the end of the month, my mom wont take me to Disneyland.
I remember this.

Aside from it being a nice marketing stunt,
i guess that people simply get more and more interconnected.

I think the way I feel about it is that if someone 'likes' some smart ass comment I made, then I hopefully made that person smile or smirk, and frankly that's all its all about. I never expect people to LOL at anything I say, as most people who use the phrase LOL are rarely ever smiling..or laughing out loud.

I never liked (har dee har har bad dad pun) the concept of 'like' farming by spewing stuff people want to hear. Half the stuff I say is just pointing out the giant pink elephant in the room that most seem to ignore..and telling them that its there, the other half...well is just genuine giving people the finger while staying within the forum rules and shiptoasting for my own ***** and giggles.

So in closing, if I have given you a like, then be happy. I don't give them out very often, and if I did, then you either impressed me, genuinely made me laugh, or made my point even better than I could of. (were ignoring those 12 or so likes I handed out in the LAGL thread...I was going through a phase.)

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Once again I seem to have given people the impression I was serious when I actually wasn't.

I don't want religion and politics to be discussed on this forum because I've spent time on another forum that revolves around those subjects and I know exactly how messy it gets every time.

This is the complete opposite of what you stated in that EVEmail you sent me ingame. Roll

There is a few reasons i will like someones post...

As Unsuccessful At Everything mentioned, i will like posts because the comment made me smile, or it was simply a very clever comment.

If the poster is saying something that i do agree with, and i want to "recognize" that persons post. Of course i could just quote it, but the like system is easy and dont "clutter" the thread.

On the rare occasions i end up in a forum discussion and i acknowledge that i have no good counter arguments. Sort of as a "ok you win". Again its more about recognizing the poster and avoid cluttering the thread with "pointless" posts.

Or if someone quotes me and its not really a question, but more a statement like "thank you" or similar i will often like the post just to acknowledge that i did see it but while i appreciate it i dont feel that further responses are needed.

Just updating this for timestamp.

22 Likes and counting.

Cheap pops.

Playing around with stuff like this teaches a lot about people and, more so, about ones self.

And it's not about the likes. The Like is just a tool, one can use.
The fun is in the riddle of figuring out what/when to say, without getting caught.

And then abusing it. ^_^

I'm still waiting for a proper explanation of the post made by Krixtal. :/

People have summed up quite a few things regarding their Like behaviour
and their opinions about Likes.

In sum, it's a sign of agreement or acknowledgement,
as U.a.E. and NightCrawler 85 have pointed out in their own perspectives.

With this in context ... what about the absence of the DisLike button
not only here, but also on FaceBook ?

Reddit, otoh, has up- and downvotes, which indicates different intentions for them to exist.
It's a Vote, not a Like. The name clearly displays the difference,
although technically there might not be one.
(an up-vote, same as the Like, equals a +1)

I've wanted a Dislike vote many times (over in GD). But I'm glad we don't have one. EVE forums are already negative enough.

And people would probably play follow-the-leader with Dislikes even more than they do with Likes. In other words, once a post hits 10 Dislikes or something, everyone would pile on and add their Dislike. The way they do if the first poster after the OP is a troll. If the troll manages a good troll post, everybody else will troll as well.

Why??? O_o
I want to know why. I actually want an at least semi detailed response...

You still haven't answered my question, btw. I have no idea why you posted the "i don't even" and
telling me you were at good schools didn't actually transport any usefull information.

I would love to talk to you, but you seem to believe i'm trolling?

If you check my thread history, you can see that i only make serious threads...
