As someone who made the mistake of jumping in battleships before he was ready, I hope I can help you avoid doing the same thing.

Firstly, just because you can access a ship, does not mean that you are ready to fly it, nor will you get anything like the best out of it. The jump from lvl3 missions to lvl4, in terms of NPC damage done and damage you need to do to them, is not trivial at all.

So, compare yourselves with me, if you like. I can fit T2 tank modules and T2 damage modules but only T1 weapons. I have tried a few lvl4 missions in battleships, but the time it takes me to get through them, despite the increased rewards, pretty much makes it a false economy.

My advice, if you want to get through lvl4s at a pace that is good for your wallet, would be to wait until you can fit your desired ship with T2 modules throughout, especially weapons and tank.

you can probably mission against kin/therm pirate factions with a deimos. It will probably also be fun (although for best fun recommend mwd and blasters). That said, the deimos does not have a reputation as a level 4 runner, and you can certainly do missions in a MJD rail mega.

Dan Rae makes good points.

But overstepped the difference or choice between the two ships you mentioned.

As far as lvl 4s go. The Mega wins everytime, but that doesnt mean you should use it.

Both ships are not made for lvl 4s at all and they do not shine there at all. Both are much better at PVP.

Deimos for lvl 3s should be good fun though with the buff to medium rails...

Which Gallente ship would you take to a lvl4, BV? I aim to do those in an Ishtar myself.

Dominix. True in 2007 and true today.

No matter the question - the answer has always been and always will be Dominix.

Purely Gallente pilot, in State Protectorate? Not sure if spy or traitor, but both sides should shoot you anyway.

I have always loved Gallente ships and the Deimos in particular. I was so bored of flying Battleships/Drake/Tengu etc I now fly this in null sec anomalies and plex's. (Serpentis Setup)

[Deimos, PVE]
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Damage Control II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Medium Armor Repairer II
Armor Kinetic Hardener II

10MN Afterburner II
10MN Microwarpdrive II
Stasis Webifier II
Cap Recharger II

Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M

Medium Hybrid Collision Accelerator I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Vespa II x5

i use the MWD to get in close and personal to anything that can web me, one they are dead, i orbit and destroy.
(With my skills & No implants)

583 sustained tank against Serpentis
833 DPS with Void & Drones
With AB running and MAR cap stable at 36% but i hardly use my MAR as once im up and in orbit most things miss me.

Sometimes i'll swap a hardner out for a tracking enhancer II if i know ill be up against alot of frigates etc.

Ive also just got faction Mag Stabs and Web which helps me so much and 5% implants get my DPS to 952 with hammerheads.

Anyway I love this ship and its really fun to get in faces and melt NPC's. As for Lvl 4 missions I cant offer advice but i cant see why not if you know triggers and web ships.

My primary vote for Gallente level 4 missions is the Dominix, however I know 2 high sec mission runners that were using Megathron with Blasters and tearing through missions as well, eventually they both moved into a Kronos.

I would seriously consider slugging away with the mega, It will probably make the jump into a Marauder much easier later in the piece when you're ready to roll missions in something shiny.

The vigilant is better imo than the diemos. Does same dps with 1 less damage mod, which gives you a spare low to cover the resists issue, and obviously with more resists in modules and not baked on, its more easily made to tank non gurista and serp missions. It also has a web bonus which means its much safer to bring med drones only (they both have 50m3 dronebays/bandwidths).

I prefer the hyperion to the mega if you must primarily run rails. Due to the big dronebay it can be made to do over 1000 dps in a mission boat config, and an aggressive player can even run 5 damage mods due to the tank bonus. I find it a little slower than a domi, but not much.

The kronos I only ever found good for missions where blasters work, at which its awesome. It can complete all missions with blasters because of the big cargo bay, but when stuff gets stuck in the scenery, you have to fly to it...

Sorry I'm currently at work and on my phone.

Despite the Vigilant having the web bonus and is it 75% damage the medium hybrid, which does take your DPS over 1000, I live the MWD sig radius bonus and T2 resists/MAR bonus the Diemos has. Enabling me to close that range quickly without taking too much damage.

Like I say to most people about PVE it is all about what you feel comfortable flying/losing and what you enjoy.

I might try the vigilant now tho as they are the same price pretty much at the moment.

This. Mega seems to me as a PvP blaster boat concept, with its tracking bonus, RoF and speed... Dominix is often mentioned as the proper Gallente PvE ship. But you needs good drone skills to get most out of it. Myrmidon is concidered by many to be the proper gallente battlecruiser to do L3 missions and Hyperion has same armor repairer bonus plus drone bandwidth, that allows it to field 5 sentry drones. More powergrid makes the fittings easier, then fitting Dominix, so you can put 6 really big guns and still has utility high slot to fit drone link augmentor. From my point of view Deimos would be an expensive glass cannon, unable to fit micro jump drive. And that leads me to conclusion, that it is not suitable for most L4 mission.

Example of Hyperion PvE fit, it will cost you only about 300 milion.:

Large Armor Repairer II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Centus C-Type Armor Kinetic Hardener

Drone Link Augmentor II

Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

Stats with Level 5 skills.

Tank:
Guristas : 457
Sansha : 461

DPS: Turrets + Garde's 2
CN antimatter : 1052
Normal antimatter : 972

Cap last for 6 min 40 secs with everything on ( stable at 75% with repair off )

I would say the Deimos is pretty descent in lvl 4's even before the revamp.

I tried her in a Gurista mission before they were changed and I had one kinetic hardnener and one rah on her.
4 shifts later dat boat had 98% kinetic resist and I had to pulse the one medium rep once...

I would guess that in a Serpentis mission the results would be the same.

But if you are unsure, go on SiSi and try it out there. I am sure you can afford 14.000 isk for the boat and a million for ammo.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

Wait no one mentions the Hyperion?
The "new" one is way better suited to run levels IVs with rails than the Mega imo.
