i discovered this workaround by luck.

if you own a ATI, this is what you can try to see if it works

1) Smoothvision HD anti-aliasing (>>NOT<< using application settings)
level = 2x
Filter = narrow tent

2) Smoothvision HD Anisotropic Filtering (>>NOT<< using application settings)
per pixel samples 2x

3) catalyst AI (using application settings)

4) MipMap detail level (>>NOT<< using application settings)
set for performance

5) wait for vertical refresh (>>NOT<< using application settings)
set for always on

6) AA mode (>>NOT<< using application settings)
set for adaptive AA

7) OPENGL (>>NOT<< using application settings)
set for triple buffering

i run under WinXP SP3 (32bit). under taskman, you can monitor that the exefile.exe stays at under 700mb, as opposed to running off to nearly 1Gb previously

it used to be that FPS will continually dwindle till it becomes unplayable. out of sheer luck, i tinkered with this, and the problem never seem to have repeated.

happy tinkering. i bet there may be some improvements even for Nvidia using similar methods.

WUT ???
