Wasted remaps, what next?

Greetings,

I'm a relatively new play, nearly a month old now. Within the first week or 2 I wasted 2 remaps, I wasn't really sure how important they were so I've had to use my last remap to try to set something up for the next year.

I've gone with Int/Per, but I'm not sure what skills to focus on for the next year until I can have another remap.

Here are my current skills:

I'm only interested in PvP/ny advice would be great.

Nice and focussed skill set, sir. Shocked

I'd stick with your current map, to be honest. Get all support (INT) and ship and gunnery (PER) to IV (Jury Rigging can stay at III). Aim for T2 tank and guns, which will need some skills at V, but will still require both INT and PER in the short term.

Don't know if you want to get into cruisers at some point?

After that I'd go full INT/MEM and max out those longer support skills.

And once you go PER/WIL-heavy to get all those ships, guns and missiles, you never go back (I should know, I've been on that map for the better part for 2-3 years).

Just my 2 cents.

Okay thanks, Frank.

I weren't really too sure what I was training until I started looking through all the different skills. So if I go Int/Mem next remap should I train drones then with my memory? Or should I put some time into drones during this year?

Yes I'd like to get into cruisers/battle cruisers as soon as I can, but I've been trying not to rush into them as I read that would be a bad idea.

No problem.

Drones are tricky because of their required attributes and they don't really fit anywhere except for a dedicated remap, which would be a waste. That aside, they'll train faster on PER/WIL than INT/MEM or your current map (get EVEMON, if you haven't already).

I haven't looked into Minmatar ships too closely over the last few years, but I don't think you'll be carrying too many drones in frigs and destroyers (correct me if I'm wrong), so they can probably wait until you go for cruisers and battlecruisers, when they become a must (imo).

There are some silver linings for you.

1 is:
Many people recommend a mixed map, such as you have, for first year players. Lets face it, you really do need everything in the first year.

2. You haven't done bad so far. Many of the starter-type skills are low rank/modifier skills. This means even with a bad map, you can train a rank 1 skill to level V in about 5 days.

I see you are doing cybernetics for better implants. I recommend training infomorph to 1 or 2, and make a clone. So you don't have to destroy the implants you already have.

Lots and lots of skills can be trained to level IV in a reasonably short time. Perfect remaps only give full benefit to level V skills at extended training times.

3. Drones. You need them, and again they will train slightly slower, but pilots rarely train drone skills at optimal anyway...
Ship skills themselves are very important also. You can read them in the ship description and feel them in combat.

Skilling your character is sort of an art form. People have different approaches, but it is definitely a 'game within the game'
Such approaches include:
Focus
Diversity
Perfect ship
Ship class (Frigates only, or Cap ships only, Recon, Logi, etc)
Remap schedules (1 year plans)
1 thing I did early was, Made sure I trained 1 skill to V every month. Then a bunch of short stuff, and so on

Frank mentioned it: Get EveMon. Make a bunch of plans. See what skills overlap and maybe that will help you sort priorities.

Since I'm required by law to post in any thread on attributes...
[Search the forums for posts by me and the keyword "remap".]

Your current mapping INT>PER isn't horrible. It will probably do you for several months, as early-on most of your skills will have intelligence as the primary attribute.

As you start to find yourself training more ship and weapons skills than anything else, you might want to change to INT=PER. I don't recommend PER>WIL within your first year (or three).

If you find yourself heading more towards drones and Industry, then INT>(PER=MEM) is decent. I actually prefer this for most of my alts.

I personally aim for a minimum skill points per hour of 2000 on all but charisma skills, unless it is an alt that I'm not going to train forever.

An Int-Mem map after getting your basics out of the way is pretty good. It's amazing how much pimping out your support and fitting skills does for you. Just a few ranks in some of the primary ones will change your capability incredibly. Don't beat yourself up too much about it, you'll be amazed how quickly the first year goes!
