Take Invention To The Next Level

I was thinking maybe we can have new ships via invention.

Unique ships with unique traits and bonuses.

Take a Rifter BPC + Amarian Datacores + Caldari Decriptor and End Up getting a UNIQUE ship BPC.

Will look like a Rifter but Traits will be totally random, In this case will be Amarian And Caldari Oriented.

So you end up getting a Ship that Looks like a Rifter with:

3 Hi slots, 2 Med slots and 5 Low slots (3 lanunchers)
5% Bonus to Missile launcher rate of fire per level
4% Bonus to Armor resistances per level

Or

4 Hi slots, 4 Med slots and 2 Low slots (3 Guns)
5% Bonus to Small Energy Turret damage per level
4% Bonus to shield resistances per level

( In this case you will need Minmatar frigate skill cause its a Rifter base + Amarr friate skill + Caldari frigate skil)

But the End Bpc you get out of that invention will be totally random, so you never know what you will get.

I Dont know about all of you guys but this sounds FUN FUN FUN to me.

not even technically feasible.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

I guess it will be hard for Developers to introduce such a thing to the game but i see it more as a challenge to them, and i really think would make the game more interesting.

Imagine you find one of these ships in PVP and the fact that you have no idea what kind of abilities the enemy ship has. I think that takes pvp to a next level.

You will never know how hi is fit or how to counter atack him before the fight starts.

I find that verry exciting to be honest!

here's what would happen:

Rifter + Minnie DC + Gallente DC => best combination. That's the ONLY one that gets made/used/etc.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Dust Shroud.

That +1 to teleport and its insanely OP armor HP bump made any other combo of runes useless.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

It's absolutely feasable and there are different ways to go about it.

What do ships have?

Hi, mid and low slots
PowerGrid, CPU, and Capacitor
Rig Slots w/ Calibration

Ship skill dependant Bonuses
Role bonuses

They could set it up as bit of a balancing act.

You have a slot cap based on ship class and some limitations. Eg. You can go without a hi slot but can't go without a low and mid (industrials and freighters would go without a hi slot). Frigate class T1s could have a slot cap of 7 and T2s could have a slot cap of 10.

For the T1 you need a minimum of one low and one mid leaving you with 5 to put wherever you wish.

There would then be a list of bonuses that you can pick and choose from. What the list is comprised of depends on the invention materials. As the OP stated, items like Datacores and decriptors, or new items altogether.

Eg. Armor resistance is typically Amarr. So by using the Amarian Datacore, this bonus would be part of the list.

The for each race that is included, the prerequisites grow. Eg. the use of an Amarian Datacore and Caldari Decriptor on a Minmatar ship's BPC means that you have to be trained to fly Amarr, Caldari and Minmatar frigates in order to fly this ship.

Rig slots can be part of the slot cap and be restricted to a minimum of one and maximum of three. Calibration would be part of of a balancing act with capacitor capacity, powergrid, cpu where you can't add to one without taking from another. There could also be a minimum and maximum to these as well.

The T2 (Assault Frigate) would give access to a second set of skill dependant bonuses (frigate and assault ship). These are things like 'for every level in the frigate skill the ship gets a 4% increase to armor resistances' and 'for every level in the assault frigate skill the ship gets a 5% bonus to launcher rate of fire'.

You would also have a role bonus list where you can choose one for T2s.

What's available on what lists and how many lists you have access to, depends on if it's a T1 or T2, what datacore/Decriptors/ect. are used, what the BPC is, ship class, etc. etc.

It's something that would take time to think through, plan out and program but it is feasable.

Rifter BPC + Minmatar DC + Gllente DC = a few posibilities

Rifter 3/4/3
5% Bonus to hybrid weapon damage per level
7.5% Bonus to shield booster efectiveness per level

Or

Rifter 4/3/3
5% Bonus to small proyectile rate of fire level
7.5% Bonus to Armor repair efectiveness per level

Or many other combinations, Its random you will never know what you get

I'm always amused by these ideas. They will never bring the "freedom" in ship design that people desire.

Once people find the most overpowered combinations (because some slots and stats are inherrently more useful than others) they will replicate the process.

Now you mention that the stats will be "randomized"... however, given that conditions required to pull this off are not, people will just play the "probability game" to get more or less what they want with massive production/invention lines.
Large organizations can do this far more easily than smaller groups... leading to further power concentration among the wealthy and pretty much obsoleting entire groups of "normal" ships.

Also, not technically feasible without completely revamping the market and back-end database.

Ok now tell me that at this precise moment Large Organizations are Not taking advantage over the smaller groups in EVE ONLINE! say it just once and ill believe it. Sarcasm is free here By the Way

Its not the coding, its the balancing.

CCP has enough on thier plate keeping some balance with ships stats set in stone. In addition to the combos already possible in game (hardwires, fleet boosts, drugs, high grade mods, set implants, wh effects, numbers in fleet, etc). Random ship configs would chuck any controlled balance testing out of the window. This controlled testing is not even easy as is now. I know of a few ship and setups that are meh to average....until you give them a nice fleet booster.

Cases like this ccp I imagine treads lightly. Can't nerf too hard if at all when you can't assume every player will have a max skill booster supporting the ship all the time. nerf under these conditionsand without the booster its an even more broken ship.

Also you run the high risk of this uniqueness backfiring. Unique combos stop being unique when spammed. If recipe A creates kick ass ship...everyone will run that ship. This is why you get some lack of variety in eve's current state. Tom and **** (edit: seriously?....its a nickname for Richard) spam ship B with similar fit most of the time Harry will follow right along.

Example: domi prior to expansion was not exactly blotting out the sun numbers wise. Gallente fleet BS for most was Mega. Some drone bonus tweaks and voila....domi doctiine is now a common eve phrase now. take away being domi being new and interesting on the battlefield lasted a few days. basically the lag time for people to x-train or copy cat when proven a solid doctrine.

Making PVP less about intelligent and informed choices and more about randomly hoping that your opponent's ship is something you have a chance against is not taking it to the next level. It is in fact taking it down a few floors.

I dont know about you mate but I personally find BORING knowing what to expect from a fight just by looking at the enemy ship.

I LIKE the element of surprise, the unknown is more fun, REMEMBER this is a game not a bussines, It should be FUN not intelligently preprogramed

Losing ships and pods to random chance rather than your own decisions is not fun or in the spirit of EVE. If you think it is, then you're pretty much the only one.

I love WTF moments in PVP

That why i love out of the box fits, because u dont expect them makes the game interesting breaks off the monotony.

Bringing Uncertainty to the game will make it better I KNOW IT.

No, I'm pretty sure CCP is a business.

Also, balancing hundreds of new ships would be pretty much impossible.
