Steam sale

Hey Guys,

I just noticed EVE Online is for sale on Steam, including 3-month subscriptions.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/8500/

When I add a 3-month subscription to my cart, I get the following message:

""EVE Online: 3 month subscription" can only be purchased for your own account at this time."

I don't really get this. Is this bad? I don't actually play EVE from Steam and I don't want to start doing so. I hope that they just send me a serial-key so I can add it on the account management page of the normal EVE Online website, but I would like some confirmation.

Thanks in advance!

Not really seeing what you are getting out of this

Probably good to stay away from third party offers in general

And stay away from Steam always

I surely hope Ramona was only referring to the wallet ganking power of the sales, because as a platform it truly is the best thing to happen to PC gaming ever.

Dont see the benefit, sorrry

All Steam has ever done is take up space on my hard drive

Ease of use, ease of distribution, ease of maintenance, and general ease of handing over all your time and money to the game developers (which is what it's all about in the end… Blink)

All steam has done for me is reminding me of all the games I still want to play.
Oh, and then it sells them cheap once or twice a year.

Yeah, steam sucks.

If EVE is the only thing you ever play, fine by me, but no need to trash Steam. Ugh

I should've explained better:

There's an EVE Online weekend deal with 50% off 3-month subscriptions. That's what I want.

You know I dont like arguing with you mostly cos you are right lol

but

I dont find it easy to use (it is yet another thing to load) and Ive never felt that any of the other things were made easier by not being able to buy my games in a shop, but I guess Im not "down" with the kids

I didn't know it was possible to get PC games without steam.

Umm, Getting a longer subscription is always cheaper vs. getting it month to month, check your account management page. I think that's the regular discounted prices for long subs.

Time purchased through Steam time only works on STEAM EVE clients. With EVE on Steam, you don't need to log into an account when you run EVE. It uses your Steam account credentials. That's why you can only purchase EVE time for your own STEAM account, it's automatically applied to your STEAM EVE account. You don't get a code to input on EVE's website.

The downside is you can't buy EVE time from another site and use it on your STEAM EVE account. You want game time for STEAM EVE, you have to buy it from STEAM.

No! It's really cheap! The offer is 3 months subscription for € 19,42 (You have to actually click on it. The discount logo shown is wrong).

I've found this:

http://community.eveonline.com/support/knowledge-base/article.aspx?articleId=796

"Special offers including bonus time and gift items will sometimes become available through the STEAM store. Details and availability will vary from offer to offer. Occasionally, such offers will coincide with similar or matching offers available to traditional EVE user accounts outside of STEAM. Please be aware that purchases made through STEAM will only apply to STEAM-based EVE accounts."

I think I'm opening a ticket.

Hmm. But I did login once through steam just to test it. I'll open a ticket just to be sure.

From past experience the 3 months game time from steam only applies to newly opened accounts.
also the no gifting thing probably just means you can't send it to a steam friend.

I could be wrong about both though.
