Eve client maxes GPU usage upon client launch

A fresh install of the client on a fresh win 7 x64 image maxes out the graphics card as soon as the client loads. The client settings are the defaults, GPU usage runs up to 99% at the log in screen, dips for a moment while the client authenticates and then returns to 99% when the CQ begins to load. FPS in the CQ runs at 2-4 frames, the same in the hanger with a carrier loaded. With all settings set to the high performance/low resource preset the FPS rises to 35-40 frames, thought out this the GPU utilization remains at 99%.

This is the first time I have encountered this issue, I have run multiple clients on this machine for over 12 months with no similar issues. This is the first time I have loged in to EVE in the last few weeks so I'm not sure if this is a change with my system or the client.

Anyone recognize these symptoms or have I simply screwed something up?

can you check that you set the parameters on "interval one" and not "interval immediate", this settings is knwon for triggerring 100% cpu load.

in interval one you will be capped to 60fps but your gpu will be way more cool

doesnt this depend on the refresh rate of your monitor? most lcds have 60hz but some have more and crts where up to 120hz if i remember correctly
