That seems--

Well. Far be it from me to judge you for that.

Uh.

Carry on.

Next thing you know there'll be a Galnet shooter based on Mercenary Clones and be poorly integrated with Empyrean Online.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

I've heard a lot about this so-called "game" from the younger people who work for me. There seem to be two types who enjoy it; the loners with long shaggy beards who have socialization issues and the apparent sociopaths who enjoy randomly blowing up everything they can for what they term "the lulz". The one thing that unites both groups is drinking heavily while playing and their hatred of 3-D avatars and that little closet-thingy they live in. Shocking!

They also seem to alternate between an unhealthy fascination with what another pilot called "space lesbians" and making horrible homophobic comments to each other. Incongruous!

Altogether it sounds like a pretty unpleasant little game filled with unpleasant little players. I hope the general public don't think we really live and behave as we're portrayed in this travesty of a game!

When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around.

I found the lack of customization options for my Minmatar Sebiestor freedom fighter lacking. Seriously, where are the rank marks? Those arm tattoos they have in the game resemble more closely something a Deteis biker might have than anything a Matari would ever permit to be inked on their bodies.

As a member of the Kaalakiota Motorcycle & Sidecars appreciation society, those arms tattoos look like nothing compared to what is normally worn as a sleeve tattoo -- they are extremely lacking in intimidating embroidered floral prints and patriotic Caldari paraphernalia such as birds and mythological beasts.

You know what might tempt me over to Empyrean? Pets. Lots and lots of pets. Yes, I already have 137 little fluffies, but **** I just want a few more, is that so much to ask?

I think this is a fantastic idea. Nothing says you've made it in life like a pointless virtual pet purchased with real life currency.

You could also have a breeding mini-game, where you trade your pets with friends, and see if you can make new breeds. Like a vicious attack furrier or the like.

All of you are playing it wrong. The focus of Empyrean online has always been on the spaceships that your avatar flies. You should stop worrying about "captain's quarters", lack of tattoos, or the fact that your avatar's hair always mysteriously hovers a couple inches over their shoulders.

I find this hard to believe. What point is there to playing if I am unable to engage in interior design and character customization? I already do enough things in spaceships during my day job. In addition, as a stereotypical capsuleer, I find spending copious amounts of ISK on overpriced personal accoutrements as adequately displaying my contempt for humanity in a virtual world. Starving orphans in the street? Not my problem, I would rather spend my disposable in-game income on platinum embroidered socks. Woven from spider silk. By spiders that have been genetically engineered to spit out platinum silk. Then hand-woven by Intaki mystics on their fortress monastary only once every decade.

Andreus Ixiris wrote:
No, no. Seriously. Decant, go into your quarters, do a precise count of the number of walls you find, and if you discover a wall with a numerical value exceeding three but not by a statistically significant number, look at it really carefully.

Don't do this if you're prone to attacks of suspicion or paranoia.

I see only four walls and five lights in my room at present.

Silas Vitalia wrote:
I hear tales the developers are stubborn and cruel slavers, entrenched in an arctic fortress on a frozen world deep in null sec.

I hear the "captains quarters" program was initially developed as a virtual reality interrogation program for prisoners of war. The prisoners are sentenced to an eternity in these drab apartments, the door to freedom right in front of them yet always locked.

A few hours in that half-finished virtual world and they will tell you anything you want to know.

That would be almost Caldari except it lacks a narrator with a soothing voice who will ask you kindly to perform hazardous tasks that cannot be completed and then mock you for your inadequacies and point out your glaring flaws.

Obviously, if you were better at it, you could open the door.

I seem to have been overcome by a wave of nostalgia for my youth.

There. Are. FOUR. Lights. FOUR.

The room I live in is virtually identical to the one in this game. Just, well, I have a bathroom. And cleanliness. Who lives like that, really?

Maybe I should ask for a larger dorm.

After digging around through the Galnet page for the game I found something quite interesting. There's a forum board where baseliners pretend to be their character ("roleplaying" I think it's called) and debate international politics. It seems to be mimicking our own Intergalactic Summit!

Oh, Maker. Does this mean they have even less of a clue how things work than some of the Summiters here?

Is that even possible?

Why anyone would want to roleplay a spaceship is beyond me.

Granted, everyone seems to want to be a Thorax in there.

But did you know that attached to this game you are talking about they have debating channels and one of those channels is dedicated solely to role-playing? And that certain players in that role-playing channel are letting their in-game characters play a game very similar to the game they are playing themselves?
There might even be players that decide their in-game character is role-playing to play a game in which their in-game character is playing a game.....

I know this might sound blasphemous to some, but the question arises: Who is playing us?Shocked
