Jamming in "Dread Pirate Scarlet"

The comments on Eve-Survival about the "Dread Pirate Scarlet" mission talk about a horrible amount of ECM (like 20 minutes perma-jam, etc.) in the second pocket but most comments are more than a year old. Some people say that they could overcome this only by fitting multiple ECCM/backup array modules. I remember than I ran this mission twice some time ago, but can't remember of particularly awful ECM.

Did this change in the meantime or is still heavy jamming in this mission? And if yes, is it always the case or only sometimes depending on the pirate faction combination (which seems to vary to some degree)?

Only Guristas jam, so it really depends on the mix you draw. I don't recall any particularly insane jamming even when I pulled them in pocket 2 but I might be remembering wrong.

I don't ever remember seeing sansha, but I've definately seen serp, gurista, angel and blood ships, and their respective racial ewars. I think gurista is more noticeable because some gurista battleships jam. The spawns are very random for race.

I use an omni tanked dominix and just set the drones to aggressive if gurista spawn.

Depends about your luck with the spawns, the 2. pocket can spawn up to 4 ECM BS, the 3. one 3 and the last pocket up to 4 elite cruisers. With a Golem, Kronos or Paladin the mission is horrible if you get guristas, with navy BS or a pirate one it is ok, assuming you get your sensor strength skill to 4 and get a bit lucky early on to remove 1-2 hulls before you get jammed.

Still tanking out 4 jamming elite cruisers in the last pocket with a navy apoc can take longer than shooting anything else in the pocket(what includes 12 BS).

Any ship with cruise missile launchers, load FoF and blow away those pesky jammers.

Also sentry drone boats work well.

Or you could just fit an ECCM. I ran one ECCM mod and never had any trouble even when I got lots of Guristas.

This does work. 2x ECCM in a marauder reduces jamming to almost nothing.

No need for FoF or sentry. Just kill the target, loot and warp out.

Its easy like Sunday morning if you have any decent ship really. They sometimes jam in the second and last pocket. Only the first pocket is locked and you get a non consumable key the first time you kill the last ship in that room. Just skip any guristas pockets and kill her when you warp into the 3rd room. Have your weapons overheated and activated. Target, loot and jet out.

If you dont get any Guristas, stay and kil all/loot if you want. Rushing this mission however is by far the best ISK. 9k LP, 9mil implant, 5 mil bounty, and about 3 mil in rewards for 15 minutes work, most of which is travel time to the mission system.

This. Definitely.

Gonna chime in to say that I routinely get Gurista spawns from this op (can't remember the last time I did this mission without a single Gurista spawning in at least one of the rooms, usually in more than one room), but never got perma jammed. That said, I usually run this op with a Golem w/at least one ECCM in a mid and primary the jam rats first (occasional jams due to only 30 sensor with 1 ECCM). I've recently went back to the CNR for running missions, but only use a grav backup array II in a low...same thing, rarely face jamming time if at all (nearly 50 sensor with CNR). For most missions, unless you're in a marauder, a sensor backup array in a low slot should suffice enough to force jamming to a minimal and make perma jams pretty much non-existant. Drone boat it, and you don't even really need that.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

regarding the second room with the four gurista BS, I was permajammed each time I run this mission, so I had to ignore the rats. Last time I did the mission however, there was no jamming at all, even though I got the four gurista BS as always. Wether I was unlucky or there was a change, I dont know.

Worst case was 3 Jams in short order in a CNR with 32 gravi-strength. It isn't that bad, unless you fly a marauder or T1 BS.

Thanks for all the tips! I've just run the mission in a Megathron with one ECCM module and it wasn't that bad. Mega is probably not the best choice but it was the BS I had at the agent's station.

Because I had a bit fear of this mission I used a safety fit: Cap stable, ECCM and therm+kin+expl hardener plus adaptive nano. It turned out to be overtanked for all four pockets (I never was below 85% armor).

Just in case someone is interested here is the faction mix I had (Gallente agent in Gallente space):

Pocket 1: Serpentis (no Damp)
Pocket 2: Blood Raiders
Pocket 3: Guristas (Initial group: no ECM, Reinforcement group: I was jammed only once for 10 seconds)
Pocket 4: Guristas (jammed once for 10 seconds) and Blood Raiders, both Reinforcement groups: Blood Raiders

The mission (kill everything mode, not just kill Scarlet) was very time consuming (1 hour and 15 minutes without looting) but that might be partially due to my safety fit and the lack of high damage output as a consequence.

30.1 mil bounties, 4 mil reward+time bonus, no clue what the loot is worth. I didn't get an implant from Scarlet since I was unable to kill her before the last pocket.

EDIT: Another version at 2013.11.03 (Minmatar agent in Minmatar space):

Pocket 1: Serpentis (little Damp)
Pocket 2: Guristas (little ECM)
Pocket 3: Cruisers=Guristas (no ECM), Battleships=Serpentis (no Damp), Reinforcement group: Serpentis
Pocket 4: Guristas (jammed twice for 30 seconds) and Blood Raiders, both Reinforcement groups: Blood Raiders

The last run I have a record of was a dominix run 25 minutes including 2 jumps to get to system and 2 jumps to get back, I didn't do the last pocket, and I looted the implant.

This was the tick : 2013.08.01 12:18:51 Bounty Prizes 19,749,878.00 ISK

So I was obviously only in the encounter for 19-20 mins or so.

I forgot to mention it in my last post but if you train the appropriate Sensor Compensation skill for the ship your flying it'll give you a 20% boost to sensor strength.
