I'd settle for just one. That's some sexy stuff right there. But I'm guessing the 1TF sustained is only when doing simple calculations. It'll probably also be prohibitively expensive.

this chip is meant for scientific computing. In-fact it is more related to a Nvidia Fermi architecture than anything else. It is meant to replace racks of Quadro computation cards and whatnot. That being said look at the shiny new x79 platform released Tuesday. Specifically boards with 8 DIMMs for ram and a 1400$ processor with 6/12 cores. It is the best that money can buy at the moment.

yeah, unless you do a lot of simple, repetitive calculations on big matrices this chip is not for you.

even for scientific computing many applications are not easily changed from being parallelized across many normal CPU cores to a parallel across CPU+GPU scheme. I've done this exact sort of programming for molecular dynamics and monte carlo simulations.

Are GPU/CPU getting faster again or are they still adding cores?

They are just adding cores. We have essentially hit the theoretical/physical limit with silicone. If you want faster CPU cores, you will have to switch to some other technology, such as optronics, or carbon-nanotubes - which are still under heavy research, but progress is slow. Carbon-nanotubes have a lot of potential, but we lack the ability to grow enough of them, and arrange them accurately. Optronics are currently too bulky, and end up being slower than silicon based electronics with our current technology due to speed-of-light limits with larger circuits.
