New Macbook Pro Fresh Client Install Kaspersky Warns as a Trojan

Hi,

Trying to install the client on a new Macbook Pro and Kaspersky
is warning that there is a Trojan in the install files.

Trojan Detected

Packed.Win32.PePatch.jw

libimagehlp.dylid

Can someone else scan them and let me know if this is a false positive
or CCP needs to take a look.

WTF you installing a virus checker on a Mac, let alone Kaspersky?

For everyone out there thinking they NEED a virus checker on a Mac STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW.

OS X already has a built-in virus checker, a very powerful one that is constantly updated without any user interaction. Out of the box you have protection but then the only reason for a virus checker is to protect Windows users from themselves.

Do yourself a favour and uninstall Kaspersky. Problem solved.

As someone who has and uses both.....


Maybe you Mac Boys should give some up to date advice... Even Apple
removed the "Mac's don't get viruses / Malware" statement from their website years ago.

Mac's do get viruses ...... Fact , do I use a Antivirus product .... No

Would I recommended someone not to use one and laugh at them ..... Never.

Look, i respect your opinion but this Thread is a Prime example what AV Programs are for: to irritate Users.

Its a Fact that using AV just seduce them to feel false comfortable and make them less carefully!

Simply delete that piece of garbage, buy yourself a Brain 1.0 and disable Scripts in your Browser and keep your System uptodate.

And yes i mean not only OSX, but Windows and Linux aswell.

25+ year Mac user chiming in (Started with a Apple II+ in 1984)

I have found over the years that virus detection programs cause a bazillion (Technical number) more problems than they can ever have a chance at fixing.

Deleting kapersky will probably make your computer faster, less annoying stuff to pop up and maybe 0.000000001% less safe

If you want some protection from malware, buy Little Snitch. It sits right above your network stack and tells you about everything that's going out and coming in. It can do per-app, per-user permissions to access different IPs and ports. It's extremely powerful, and chatty by default.

Every trojan that has ever been released for the Mac has a bit of code that checks to see if Little Snitch is installed. If it is, they silently delete themselves.

All the posts I see are debates about how stupid it is to put another antivirus software onto the Mac,
and not the problems of the EVE Online Mac client and a solution to what was asked in the first place about the 2 trojans in it.

Kaspersky gives you the option to ignore specific programs which would fix your issue. It would appear that the client is being identified as a threat via heuristics. To my fellow MAC users...don't do it...just let thie subject go away. Feeding the misguided only creates more frustration for those of us who understand the differences of the PC and MAC OS.

Didn't read my post properly did you? I said OS X has a BUILT-IN virus checker. It doesn't need a 3rd party one. Neither does Windows 8 actually because Security Essentials is built in.

There is no valid reason for having the life sucked out of your machine by a hack virus checker like McAfee, Norton, and Kaspersky. They're all as bad as each other.

Hell, if you really want a virus checker you can control then download ClamXAV which is free and lightweight.

Also, there is ZERO viruses in the wild for OS X. Do not confuse malware with viruses because they are two different things. They are also covered by GateKeeper which is an OS X feature so once again I don't see the need for Kaspersky.

Fun fact: I once had Norton AntiVirus flag the Windows NT kernel as a virus, and then attempt to disable it. That was an interesting morning.

The AV software is the problem here.
