"Of Whores and Hero's" is my entry for the contest. It can be found in Eve Fiction. Submitted 10/19/2013. It can be viewed there. I tried to link it in this area however it won't let me. Catorgorized: "A day in the Life".

Thank you for your time.

Tossing myself into the frey. Here is my entrance into the contest.

Midway.

Category: Eight Thousand Suns in New Eden.

Number of words: 4979 words.

Disclaimer: This story has never been published or posted before.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Five stories received and linked on the entries page. A little surprised about which category (lore-based, freeform, humor) is most popular so far....

It seems that people aren't completely clear on the standards and expectation for the 8,000 Suns (lore-based) category. Basically, if the story would have been publishable in EON, it's OK for 8,000 Suns. The story can contain new things and events that aren't found in the prime fiction and still be OK in this category.

A good example is 'The Attrition Initiative', First Prize winner in last year's 8,000 Suns category. The story involved a experiment in repeated recloning and transneural burning. There's nothing like that in the prime fiction, but it's a possibility that fits within the framework of the New Eden world. Another good example: 'Hunted' (Grand Prize last year, for best of the 8,000 Suns category). From these two stories you can see that there's a lot of room for creativity in the lore-based category.

A short question, is it also allowed to do a comic?

If yes, i will try to take part in the Humor section. Hope i have enough time to bring my pencil on the paper :)

Let me give this some consideration and consult with the other judges. We definitely don't want to discourage people doing creative works, whatever the format. But at the same time, we have to consider how the judging would work, fairness to your entry and all of the other entries, and any possible complications. I'll get back to you soon.

When donating prizes to Chribba for holding, are there any special instructions that we need to follow to make sure they go for the prize pool? Would be a good idea (and potentiallly settle any unease) if Chribba were to post on this thread acknowledging that he is acting as a third party for the prizes.

(Now I only have to say Chribba once more to summon him.)

Now that Marlona has taken my favorite writing desk and Kyle has taken my crayons....

Whatever shall I do......

Thanks Random, good question.
Steps:
-EVE Mail Chribba letting him know you're contracting/transferring a donation, and that it's for this contest. Please CC me.
-Contract/transfer the donation.
-After Chribba has the donation, he sends an EVE Mail confirmation to the donor and myself. Chribba's efficient, so far all three steps have happened really easily. And quickly, too.

If any potential donors are interested in seeing them, I can forward copies of the Chribba confirmation mails. I don't think he or the donors will mind if I share them.

OK, comics can be entered in the contest. But, since we're already mid-way into the contest, we have to follow this guideline stated when it was first announced: 'If you want to add illustrations to your posting, so much the better. However, illustrations will not affect the judging of the fiction piece.' In other words, the judges can only judge the work based on its text content and story, not its visual content.*

By the way, I know that a player is thinking of setting up an EVE art contest later on. Visual content will definitely be considered and awarded in that one, of course.

*The rationale: If we make exceptions or change rules in the middle, somebody could say, "If I knew that was allowed, I would have entered. Now it's too late, I don't have time." Or "If I knew that was allowed, I would have done my entry differently." The idea of the contest is for people to enjoy creating new works, not to have a lot of competition controversy.

Confirming that this went down exactly as described. Chribba got us hooked up in very short order when I worked out our corp/alliance donation.

Tsuata opened his mouth to respond but before he could speak, the wind was knocked out of him with a hard metallic thump. He looked across the aisle to see a series of fist-sized holes open up along the Sparrow’s fuselage above Matavo's head, long shafts of light penetrating the armored hull as sparks bounced around the dropships interior.

One more week to write!

Maybe she did it to empathize with the Rock; as a child Karin always took the side of the Rock in its struggle with the evil Mountain. That was before she understood the metaphorical meaning of the story and realized the folly of the Rock’s actions. But the story had always remained one of her favorites and the chance to hear it now from a master storyteller like Vormar enchanted her even more.
