Alright, so I have taken a year or so off from playing eve. Probably two years with one month on in between. So right now I am basically trying to relearn a lot of what I forgot. I am aiming to eventually get into the Eos. I can how ever get into the Proteus now, if I want to spend the money.

What I want from the Proteus:

Good armor (Not sure what is best, buffer/resists/active)
Drone Boat
Scanning
Ganglinks.

If I remember correctly the Proteus was not held in high regard a while ago, and I am not sure if trying to make this ship is worth it, or if I can just get a T1 or a T2 that does 3/4ths of this a lot better.

So please, help the ignorant out.

If I was going for straight Drone boat that might be true but I am trying to have the three rolls rather than just the one. Unless its a complete trade off and the three rolls will only be mediocre at best.

I take it back. The Ishtar completely outclasses the Proteus to a degree I cant ignore.

Proteus has an immense tank and great damage but drones its not good at

Well, if you want droneboat, this can take most people by surprise, but I would not fly it myself, so take that however you want

as has been stated before, the proteus is not a great drone boad, mostly due to its low bandwith. an ishtar or eos will not quite reach the proteus's massive buffer tank, they will however outperform it in damage (the ishtar is also slightly smaller and more mobile iirc).
if you are just looking for a jack of all trades ship though, the proteus may be a better choice as it is relatively easy on the SP and can be set up in at least two other valid roles (brawler and cloaky ambusher).

I should buy an Ishtar.

Yes I have an ishtar out here now, and in the medium term, I will eventually have 2 ishtars out here, one fitted for farming anoms, one fitted for plexing, but I can't overlook that the proteus was really useful to me in a space that had no jumpbridges and no JF services at the time.

The trade off actually becomes range most of the time, and that doesn't bother me.

Honestly Sounds like you Want an Eos at this point. Can do the same drone dps of the ishtar and run links.
