Only use latest iTunes when you absolutely have to.

Try older version.

I approve of your choice of music. but one problem with making your own player is possibly losing capabilities or having problems with the compatibilities.

Nah, I'm using the BASS libraries from http://www.un4seen.com/
They're pretty comprehensive. If I want a capability I code it :)
