I slightly agree. - fixing defender missiles should come within the rebalancing scope. It can't be that hard. Can it?

Edit - I mean I know that we all laugh at them - but why should we? They should be made viable at least.

Aaaaaaand relax.

As an actual real life mechanism, defender missiles would be incredibly easy to implement - similar to cluster bombs. All it would need to do is have a timed fuse before it launches bomblets, which in turn create a shrapnel field which shreds incoming missiles. Then again if that were true, 1400mm artillery would punch a hole straight through most ships. As a in game mechanism? That'd be horribly over powered, but they certainly need to be buffed to make them worth using.

1) Remove defender missiles.

2) Make missiles targetable and shootable by all weapon systems.

3) Watch people cry about Tengu nerf. (because apparently anything having to do with missiles makes the tengu more worthless)

4) Wait for missile lovers to flood to forums to whine about how unbalanced missiles are vs other weapons.

5) Troll all the threads.

This may be the wrong list.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

This man has a plan. What's CCP's plan?

Exactly.

I'm the chump who trained defender to 5 and can't find T2 variants.

I suppose keeping Defender missiles "down" would reduce calls for a turret based version. There is such a thing as a turret that can kill missiles. They already exist now, in RL, in these times..

Such a turret would be a boost to non-missile ships such that it would reduce the effectiveness of kiting them to death while lobbing missiles at them.

Now there are light and heavy defenders which are great, but why not a anti-cruise missile system too while we are at it?

A drone specifically designed to attack incoming missiles would be epic. Of course 5 lights hunting missiles on a navy drake running defenders you just know that someone is going to be mad even if such a fitting is as harmful as an AFK cloaker.

I just caught myself rating ideas on how much whining and crying it will cause.

Actually keeping the anti-missile system as missiles themselves makes more sense. Because honestly, who will forgo fitting main guns for a situational system. Thats like skipping a point for a tracking disrutor and complaining your targets run away.

It would be nice however if you could load light defenders into rapid light launchers. I have no idea why this was removed when they were split into 2 missiles. I mean, if you only have 1 defender launcher, wouldn´t you want the launcher with the highest possible rate of fire?
A launcher with defenders should be somewhat the counterpart to a turret ship being hit with an unbonused tracking disruptor.

How about giving the new Ishukone Scorp a bonus to defender missiles?
Fixes two problems at once...Cool

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I once heard/read that smartbombs can be some sort of anti-missile system, but I'm truly not sure because I was reading some sort of article in haste... I could be wrong though Roll

Just add a couple of things that defender missiles also do. Like shoot at drones, and bombs. Fixed. They are now useful.

Yea, this works. Generally done in fair sized Battleship fleets. It's called a "Firewall" and it works really really well for diffusing massive missile ship blob DPS.
