Having never been to any EVE reltated "social" event, is it really that bad? Surely even nerds know how to operate shower controls...

There's always one...but like someone else said, if anybody knows how to use an A/C then it's the folks at Vegas. They are used to conventions, the heat and whatnot, they know what they are doing so it shouldn't be that bad.
