Hey!

I was wondering if any of you have installed Eve on a external thunderbolt drive to play? I have a 13 rmbp and my HD space is limited. I was thinking of buying one of those thunderbolt external drives to off load files on it. has anyone had any luck with this or even tried it?

I did not test to install EVE on an external drive.

But i have an iMac that boots directly Mac OSX on a thunderbolt Promise Pegasus R4, and it works perfectly.

Of course, EVE is installed on it, because I actually don't use the internal drive.

So it should not be a problem to install just EVE on it.

Hey Nixss!

Since an external Thunderbolt drive is treated in OS X the same as any other drive, internal or external, I think what you're actually asking is whether or not EVE will play if it's installed anywhere other than the Applications folder of the boot drive. I have an 8TB Thunderbolt drive, but I didn't install EVE there; instead, I installed it to a secondary internal drive. Once it was installed, I created an alias to the app and put the alias in the main boot drive's Applications folder. Voila! Everything worked. So my answer to your question is yes, you should be able to install and play EVE on your external Thunderbolt drive.

I used the past tense: everything worked. See my own post regarding how EVE no longer runs on my Mac. However, in trying to resolve my problem, I have uninstalled and reinstalled EVE directly in the Applications folder of the boot drive, all to no effect. I think where you install EVE has no bearing on whether it will work or not....

Not saying I don't support Thunderbolt. USB3 is half as fast at generation 1 thunderbolt. And amazon had some 3TB USB 3 drives from seagate I think for like 100$

And just like any application as far as I know. You can install it on to any drive (internal/external) and it will launch. Nearly all Mac Applications are self contained with minor external parts that appear in the user library (Application Support folder) Users Document folder. or User Folder.

No matter where u have the Application. It will create those files in those OS locations, the the App itself can be left on the external.
